IA absolutely steals the show here in my humble opinion. I swear he's one of the few guitarists who rarely ever sounds like the sum of his influences. I can here a little Satch and Zappa in here, but beyond that it's hard to imagine where it all comes from...

I think he is so hung up on different techniques and scale that he doesn't have time to listen to others

This video has been floating around for awhile, I believe. I didn't know that Jeff Sipe was playing with them. Anders Johansen plays drums on the album. Which is excellent, by the way.

I will say that IA doesn't seem quite as comfortable yet in this genre as Shawn Lane did, but this is a great move for IA, I'd say--he will really get pushed in a way that he wouldn't in his other projects. Oh, and he has a LOT of Vai in his playing, which is not a bad thing.

I recently ordered their CD. Jonas Hellborg's soloing is so far ahead of other bassist's it's like they're playing a different instrument. I though the studio albums he did with Lane were way ahead of that "Paris" DVD - Lane seemed disconnected from the band - but this IA guy seems to be on his game, here.

(I'm so old I still think it's a shame Hellborg & McLaughlin have such towering egos they can't play together, but if I was that good I'm sure I would too )

At about 5:30 there's a lot of Steve Howe (or Vai) influence, then Eric Johnson at 7:00 then Slight Satriani a little after that.

-------------------
Current Axe: Epiphone Explorer, custom pickups (Unknown brand), a coil tap, and a killswitch

Current 7: Ibanez RGX that's in bad shape right now (no strings, broken killswitch, neck needs work).

Current Acoustic: Fender Stratacoustic (I love that guitar)

Latest Guitar: Frankenfretless hand assembled custom

Not really my thing, but still cool. The tapping bit her was doing was interesting.

Jonas Hellborg is absolute class. This is yet another band that pushes Sweden so much further into musical superiority, especially compared to my shitty country. We've got one or two good metal bands around today and that's about it.
I was introduced to Jonas trhough his work with Shawn Lane, and he just shines no matter who he works with. It seems he knows how to bring out the best in IA aswell.
