Holy Katana is a jewel in the rough
Funny, I'm writing a paper on him at the moment. Well, it's mostly written, my rough draft is almost the minimum length as it is. As I wrote it in about six hours (yet somehow, my rough draft got an A), I was only able to write about one album: Kind of Blue. I also talk about his tone and playing style, and its impact, as well as his legacy today. I'm wondering what other albums of his I should write about. I'm thinking maybe E.S.P., Bitches Brew, On the Corner, Miles Smiles, Milestones, and Birth of the Cool, which is the only one I'm sure I'm doing. Which ones should I write about? The final paper's due Friday.

Miles is the man

Check out 'In a silent way' and 'Jack Johnson'

Bitches Brew might be the one for the paper cos it was so controversal.

And Coltrane's "A Love Supreme". And Mingus' "Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus"

Although I am one of the few people I know that like Miles but really can't stand Bitches Brew

I have a radio recording of Miles in 1951 that is also The Shit.

Bitches Brew must enter that essay somewhere. That is easily one of the most important albums ever - fusion wouldn't be anything like what it is now, if it even existed, and there's no telling how either jazz or rock would have developed without something like that album to shake everything up.

Yeah, I've decided to do Bitches Brew, Birth of the Cool, and maybe one more.

Either "Miles Smiles" or "ESP" is the other album I would cover, since you've got to have Miles' classic '60s quintet represented, too.

If you had the room, I would also suggest "On the Corner," since it was so controversial and is only now starting to be fully appreciated 35 years later. I'm actually doing a track right now inspired by On the Corner--very tribal and chaotic.

Yeah, I was considering all of those. The max length is 8 pages, and my rough draft is 4 1/2. I think I could probably fit all three of those in, if I'm more brief about them.
