Favorite Jazz Artists

Al Caldwell
http://www.myspace.com/bassbooty

Al has about 4 myspace accounts covering his vast range but I really dig on his jazz tunes. The fact that he plays the 11 string bass is what got me interested in the first place, but his music really kept my attention. There's so much funk is anything he plays. I love it. His Travelin' Black Hillbillies material is the shit too!

Bela Fleck
http://www.myspace.com/belaflecktones

Bela's music is amazing, not to mention that Victor Wooten is his bass player, and damn, the guy is simply a god on bass.

"Dude, you need to find the right fucking meds to be on, because you are the most unstable person I know."

Guitar

Pat Metheny
Allan Holdsworth
John McLaughlin

(Plenty more, but those are the main guys I like. I haven't really counted anyone like Shawn Lane or Brett Garsed whose music can't really be counted as predominantly jazz-orientated)

Honourable mentions for Mike Stern, Pat Martino, Wes Montgomery, Al DiMeola, and Kenny Burrell.

Bass

Jaco (my initial inspiration for giving jazz a go)
John Patitucci
Steve Bailey

Sax

John Coltrane
Michael Brecker (RIP)

Keys

Lyle Mays
Chick Corea

Drums

Chad Wackerman

Nothing like a good depressant to chase the blues away!

Wow, I've really got too many to name. I'm pretty big on most of the artists listed so far. Recently, I've been listening to a lot of Wes Montgomery and John Coltrane. Also, I've been getting into a lot of bossa nova players like Byrd, Gilberto/Getz, and Jobim. Lenny Breau is hot shit as well

LarksTongues is on a distinguished road
There's lots, but some of my favortes include
Chick Corea (RTF, Elektric band, solo, ...)
Stanley Clarke (recently bought The Clarke/Duke Project on vinyl, more of an RnB album that jazz but has some catchy songs)
Jaco (got my hands on a great 1978 Weather report concert with the man in his prime)
Pat Metheny (still need to get more of his stuff, the fact that Jaco plays on Bright Size Life introduced me to him)
Allan Holdsworth ( such a great stlye )
Miles Davis (currently reading his autobiography, quite a colorful vocabulary)
