Carvin DC400T

With this guitar i went all out and got everything i wanted...i sure did pay for it But what i really wanted was this guitar to be THE guitar forever. I'd say that's a true statement

I've had it for about 3 months now and here's some info about it:

+ DC400T GUITAR W/WILKINSON TREMOLO 2PU
+ PIEZO BRIDGE OPTION GUITARS
+ UMBER STAIN,SUNST BRST W/QUILT
+ DEEP TRIPLE STEP STAIN
+ 5PC-PC LAM MPL NCK W/WALNUT STRIP
+ FULLY ROUNDED BODY EDGES
+ TUNG OIL FINISH BACK OF NECK
+ REVERSE INLINE HEADSTOCK
+ QUILTED HEADSTOCK ANNIVERSARY
+ BIRDSEYE MAPLE FRETBOARD
+ ABALONE DOT INLAYS
+ STAINLESS STEEL FRETS
+ 12" FINGERBOARD RADIUS
+ BLACK CHROME PLATED HARDWARE
+ ABALONE CARVIN LOGO

ORDER TOTAL: 1,788.99

Features: As you can see from the specs i went all out on the features. I really love the tone options. Being agle to split BOTH bridge and neck humbuckers into single coils AND put these combinations in and out of phase is fantastic. The Piezeo system is pretty good. I would have to say that, that is the only thing about this guitar that is just kind of 'meh'. I tried running the seperate out to my PA system and it sounded ok but it just wasn't very loud. The Wilkinson tremolo and Sperzel locking tuners make a great combo. It holds tune pretty well, but i've been playing it a lot so it could probably use some new strings. The tung-oiled neck feels perfect. Carvin talks about their award winning necks and i had NEVER played one before purchasing this so i went on that alone and wow, just wow. I have never felt a better neck in my life, not to thick but not too thin.

Sound: Like i noted previously, the pickup system is fantastic! It is super responsive and you can get SO many tones out of just this one guitar. I have played it through my rectifier, powerball, and various Line 6/Behringer Vamp settings and it sounds great everywhere for almost every application. The only thing it is slightly lacking is tightness for metal. It can do metal but it's just not what i'm used to hearing. Still, not bad just different. Bottom line; one of the best sounding guitars i have yet to hear, even unplugged.

Action, Fit & Finish: Right out of the box, wow. I always worry when i buy new guitars about where i'm going to get it professionally setup at, welp i didn't need to even bother. The action was super low and just where i like it. The body feels so smooth which is due to the rounded body edges and that beautiful finish. They did a fantastic job on splitting the body paint to where the neck is tung-oiled. It looks great and feels awesome. Not a single problem with the playability or finish. The wood grain looks awesome everywhere, including that birdseye maple fingerboard.

Reliability: Again, i haven't had this guitar for more than 3 months but everything is working perfectly. The electronics have no crackling and i have not had any issues with either output jack.

Customer Support: I placed my order back in early February and needless to say i got really antsy waiting 3 whole months so every so often i would email Mr. August from Carvin to get updates on the guitar and he responded within a few hours at most. Super great to deal with and very friendly.

Overall Rating: I would give this higher than a perfect score if it were at all possible. My favorite thing about this guitar is about the feel and comfort. When i sit down to play it, it sits perfectly level unlike some guitars that are headstock or body heavy and the result is a guitar that tilts. Not the case here at all. The last thing i want to say is also about the upper fret access. Like everything else, it's perfect. I can reach every single fret on every single string with so much ease.

I simply cannot stress how amazing Carvin's guitars are. For the money you pay it EASILY destroys anything a company like Fender,Gibson,ESP,etc. puts out. You get exactly what you want for a very reasonable price. It makes sense to me and i now know exactly where i'm going for the rest of my guitars.

PICS!

wow.....what a gorgeous looking instrument! I've been GASsing for a DC727 for a while now, and I definitely will be saving up for one. Couple of Q's for you:

How do you like the Wilkinson as opposed to, say, an OFR? I think I'm done with floating bridges in general anyway, but just wondering how the Wilkinson's are.

What's the body sides wood, just the standard alder? Is that maybe why you're not happy with the metal tone? Just curious...

the wilkinson is a pretty awesome tremolo, however i don't think they make one for the sevenstring models...i could be wrong though. the Carvin floyd rose model, from what i have heard, is not nearly as great as some other trems but it's still pretty decent.

My guitar holds tune almost perfectly and even when i use the whammy bar it holds tune just fine.

well, the entire guitar is alder, but just with a flamed maple top. the neck through is walnut/mahogany. i think the alder sounds fine for metal, it's just that the pickups do not have enough definition for my taste.
