Wow, I actually got neg. repped by someone for liking an album more than they did. Oh well, I guess the joke's on you, anonymous shitbag, cuz while you sit behind your computer judging people based on their taste, I'm REALLY enjoying listening to this album

Hmmm, BTBAM...

I don't know, I've put in a conscious effort to get into them...but I only really like a handful of their songs. I own 3 of their albums, none of which I pirated, not even to sample before investing in them. I've really tried, but the only songs that really stood out to me and grabbed my attention were their more melodically driven songs. I acknowledge their talent, they have a frightening degree of it, and that I appreciate to the OVERMAX!! But I doubt I'm going to buy their new album this time around. But hey, I'm glad you guys are getting a lot of enjoyment out of it.

Oh, and btw, I don't go around neg repping people for their differing tastes in music. Just throwing that out there in case any suspicions arise. Ain't no playa hater here, just hustlin'.

I've listened to it a couple more times and I can enjoy it if I take it for what it is rather than what I wish it were. You just have to accept that BTBAM don't have the emotion in their music like they did in their early stuff anymore and they are more about trying to be proggy.

Yeah, agreed. It's really difficult to compare the newer stuff to the older stuff. Aside from the self-titled, I love every single album they've released, but all for different reasons. They're a lot like Mastodon in that sense.

If you look at the context of the other albums, where the band and it's members were in life were different for each.

Between The Buried And Me - Most members just left other popular and lot less technical bands. Also all but Paul and Tommy were present. They still had a lot of the emotion that goes into playing local and smaller venues.

The Silent Circus - This release got them a bit bigger, it was a lot more polished and showed that Metalcore could be smart and jazzy at times. A lot of people look at it as there best "non-prog" album. It was basically "self-titled, but better".

Alaska - Taking The Silent Circus even further, giving it a little more prog and overall putting their best creative foot forward. They also solidified their line-up with this album. This one really put them on the map in a lot of metal circles and, if you ask a lot of fans, Alaska got them into BTBAM.

Colors - This is where they got very proggy. Mainly from the influence of the newer band members, as well as their own desire to move forward technically. Colors was both more polished then Alaska, as well as more prog influenced. This lead them to going on the Progressive Nation tour with prog legends Dream Theater. I think that tour impressed on them a lot.

The Great Misdirect - They finally jumped off the "Metalcore with Jazz" train and are now aside from an aggro riff here and a screamed vocal there are full blown prog. It's almost completely different from their first two releases, and in all honesty was easy to see coming.

i think its an amazing album. Ive listened to them for years, and they have changed ALOT. but i think its for the better, they have matured a ton as musicians. BUT, i do think touring with dream theater had alot to do with the way they write now, but is that a bad thing? not at all. Every album they put out surprises me, and id rather be surprised everytime then bored. although a 17 min song is a bit extravagant. haha.
