yeah, but for electric guitar and electric bass- I even marched in a parade with an acoustic guitar once, and did one with an electric bass and a battery powered amp.

We had a pretty liberal directer.

Oh yes! I was a total band whore in school!

Alto sax for marching, concert & jazz bands.
Baritone sax for jazz band.
Bass Guitar for jazz band.
***My baritone sax jazz skills got me a full scholarship for college!

During my tenure in school band, I got the chance to learn how to play over a dozen instruments. Good times, indeed.

I was in the Waltham High Jazz Ensemble. It pretty much sucked cause the teacher wasn't all that great. She ended up at Berklee at the same time as me.

I wasn't personally, but the drummer in my band I was in in High School was first chair percussionist at state two years in a row.

He wrote this amazing percussion piece called 'Automation' for his senior project, and had both me and the guitarist in our band play in it, along with the music teacher and his son.

His name was Matt, he played xylophone. I played tympani, the guitarist played concert toms, the music teacher played snare, the music teacher's son played bass drum, and Matt's cousin played special percussion.

It was so freaking awesome. This huge, thunderous percussion piece that just built and built then exploded into double time and raged for a minute or so then quieted into the intro again. I still remember feeling my chest pump from the tympani I was slamming. At it's loudest it was quadruple forte (for those of you who were in band) ffff.

Metal is cool and all that, but that experience was probably one of the most metal things I've ever done. Nothing in the world heavier sounding than a huge wall of percussion thundering toward you. I went crazy on the tympani too. Quadruple forte basically means 'as hard as you can'. I was 6'3", and I was literally jumping in the air as I hammered on those things.

The evaluators of his senior project just looked stunned after we played it, like they'd just been punched in the gut. They gave him an A.

Man, that was so freaking cool. I hadn't thought about that in years. Freaking RAWK! \m/ \m/
