Ooh, that's an especially good solo. EoT isn't my fav 'Tage disc, but Criss was really on fire on it...

Yeah, that's his best album performance IMO. Almost every riff/solo on EoT is brilliant. The guy never, ever overplayed and had such a unique vibe to him. I can pick his tone out almost as easily as I can George Lynch's.
Besides, everyone knows that TWOM is the best 'Tage album. Basically because I've posted about it 28347923749832 times on here. ![]() |

Criss was the man. No one cound really replace him, period. The live in Japan disc with Skolnick makes me wanna puke every time he tries one of Oliva's solos.
His tone was just killer too, I believe EoT was a Jackson w/EMGs through a boost pedal into a Laney AOR-series amp. |

Sava-who?
* Drew hums "Smells like Teen Spirit" You know, I'm really not that familiar with Savatage, but 1.) the pause at "but I don't think about you anymore" bugs me, but aside from that the songwriting is pretty damned solid, and 2.) You're right, this guy's got some badass phrasing. I love this solo for all the same reasons I love Lynch's playing. ![]()

If you don't like Savatage, you are a poser and may you forever play a Kramer.
Keep in mind that video was released in 1993. The tone/production on that album is as good as most of what you'll buy today. |

That's one of those songs that just has everything in place...EoT is easily my favourite Savatage record, although I love Handful of Rain and Streets as well.
So sad that he's not with us anymore... ![]()

Yeah, listening to Oliva just kind of makes me sad, he was such a great talent.
I saw Savatage live in '90 on the Testament/Savatage/Nuclear Assault tour... absolutely awesome (well, aside from a string break on Gutter Ballet that kind of killed that song...). I wish I had caught them on the tour for Streets... |
