If you look at it from the point of view of an outsider, it is hardly different.

Often it is argued that all deathcore bands sound the same, they are unoriginal, and follow a simple formula to sell records. While this is true, there are many bland and uninspired core bands out there, there are just as many rehashed death metal, black metal and trash metal bands too.

Also, the "Scene" fashion is often associated with "core" music. While I myself am not a fan of it, how is it any different from how the metalheads of 80's and 90's
that dressed messy and edgy to stand out? It really isn't.

You see, hating the fad of deathcore has become a fad itself. It’s not uncommon to see the complete ridicule of deathcore and its fans in metal communities and message boards. This causes countless amounts of people to join in on the hate. People feel strong in numbers; they feel safe when they can all agree on something. As this group grows, it becomes more and more intimidating to say otherwise. These people are afraid of being an outcast, and afraid of expressing themselves. All this does is destroy what metal is really about. Speaking your mind and being yourself.

Just like any other genre of music, there are many great deathcore bands. All Shall Perish, After The Burial, Veil Of Maya, Born Of Osiris, the list goes on.

On the other hand, some people just don’t like the music

This is probably the smartest and most intelligent answer I have ever heard on this topic. I listen to alot of deathcore, hence the name...one of my favorite bands is whitechapel. But I love alot of death metal like Nile and Behemoth and Decapitated and many others I dont feel like naming. however, I get bashed all the time on these forums and any posts I see on bands I like. Honestly, if you like it you like it. If you dont you dont. I especially agree with the fact that the little scenesters that walk around ....ing 'bree-ing' and wearing death metal band tees that they bought at hottopic are only jumping on for a trend. if the rest of the scenesters all of a sudden decided to start a new hardcore dance mosh shit to Miley Cyrus, they would. People like that are the people who give guys like me a bad rep. I play what I like from classical to deathcore to Deathmetal to acoustic to anything I can be musically creative with. And no, Im not gunna lie, I love a heavy breakdown and even numerous ones, because its just my thing and just what Im into. The feeling of having people kill eachother (or in some senses, just look like it with the 'hardcore dancing') to a heavy breakdown and the chills I get and the fact I can throw my guitar around on stage and move is more fun in my opinion than just riffing away and nodding my head. Again, I love to shred and I throw that in songs aswell.

Basically it comes down to what you want out of music. I agree, selling out is not my thing and too many people do it. If I could tour the east coast in my band and just play every night and have fun and never make millions off of a record deal I would in a heartbeat. But I dont think hardcore, deathcore, or mathcore bands are the only ones to do so.

+Infinity!!!! You said it better than I could ever say it. There are some GOOD ones, but you have to search through the billions of generic garbage to find them. I would take True hardcore over this new "hardcore" any day.

Excellent post, and all true points to some degree or another... but I still think that resistance is necessary when things go into monolithic stylistic direction, otherwise the diversity of the genre can be largely lost.

Personally, if the style that I play in becames grotesquely popular, I would honestly move to a different direction... nut because I wasn't 'true' or whatever, simply because my tastes in hard music are diverse enough to formulate a variety of takes on what can be done with the music.

I like proper metalcore/deathcore bands like 36 Crazyfists, Parkway Drive, Born of Osiris etc, but none of this emo-screamo business. I like a bit of grindcore too.

but why? Why cant you just do something you love, play what you love, I dont understand why someone as yourself would change just because no-nothings jumped on the bandwagen aswell? If people enjoy the music you play than .... it! Have fun, enjoy it while your still alive.
But, If you take a twist on what you said, administer your diverse sound and talent and commence an intense writing process to unleash a sound all your own.

And I hope that the people wanting to lock the thread is for wanting to defend core.

probably not though, this is ss.org. Im used to it already =\

Well, I try to do the later anyway, so I don't see there really being a problem. I dunno, the similarities in bands dumbfounds me sometimes... I'd really, really, really have to try to end up sounding like something else. Its too much work to cop someone else's sound, IMHO... far easier just to be creative.

There's a really funny thread on the Andy Sneap forum about this trend thanks to someone talking about Suicide Silence.
They dubbed it "death metal for kids who hate death metal"

You know what I hate the most about the "core" bands?

The names...

They're so ridiculous. It seems like these guys are always looking a book with name possibilities. It always has Burial, Autumn, Darkness or some sort of cliche word. And it ALWAYS has 3 words.

Mockup names:

Bury the Remains
Burial of Autumn
Autumn of Solace
We Shall Burn
Burn Shall Autumn

etc. All these stupid names. Why? I miss the time when bands had better names...
