Those of us who player the larger clubs with a dedicated light guy will all tell you that flash photography is no big deal. That shit can't hold a candle to a bigass set of strobes on an otherwise dark stage.

man, during a lot of the parts on Arch Enemy's set, the lights strobed... and I'm pretty fucked up from past stuff, and I can't take it. I swear I almost passed out a few times.

I got used to them pretty quick. The trick is to stand facing away from them so they hit your back.

We had this really cool guy who for $10-40 (depending on how the door looked that night), and a few beers, would come out to the small local shows, set up three strobes, two spinners, four ground lamps with the switchable colored gels, and a fog machine. He would then bop along with your music all night, putting on this cool light show for your bar gig. You wouldn't believe the audience reaction: it takes all focus off of all distractions and puts it on your band.

I love strobes and bright lights, because it makes you look like a rock star, and the crowd responds.
