I need something new to play. Dream Theater like stuff is out of my league but name some anyway.

Cryptopsy
Behemoth
Machine Head
Devildriver
Nevermore
Vai
Satriani
James laBrie
Fear Factory
Soilwork
Mercenary
Darkane
Slipknot
Adagio
Cannible Corpse
Morbid Angel
All playable on a seven
Any help appreciated

Anyways, dream theater riffs shouldn't be too complicated. Just start out at like half speed, and work on the rhythm parts. The phrasing with your right hand is very helpful.

the only thing I find hard about Dream Theater are the solos...

rhythms are really easy most of the time

um try arch enemy or opeth.

I meant seven string or B or lower tunings for the bands. I play heaps of Opeth. Same about dream theater. i play all his riffs but Petrucci's solos are out of my league

7 string? cryptopsy doesn't play seven string guitars...... although they tune down to B

try Meshuggah maybe?

Try some Unearth and Sonata Arctica (there are seven string songs on the Reckoning Night album).

Circus Maximus' debut cd "The First Chapter" has some 7 string stuff as well. IIRC, In Flames' "Come Clarity" is tuned to B or A# on their 6 strings.
