I enjoyed Rite of Passage. I thought Nightmare to Remember was epic except for Portnoy's part. WTF was he thinking? Some nice 7 string action I think.
P.S. It's a Portuguese radio station. |

Skip to around 14 mins. I believe for the first clip straight after Rite of Passage, "Wither" was being played in the background behind the DJs voice annoyingly! |

Rite of Passage is good stuff. I haven't listened to DT in months and I can already tell this album is gonna get me hooked again
![]() Awesome tone from JP too, I wonder if he's still using the Mark IV for this album. |

I really don't know what I'm listening to. 13:20 is DT?
EDIT: Okay, A Rite of Passage is boring as hell. Don't take anything I say here personally, I'm just here to talk about guitars while I'm not watching Brazzers.

13:20 sounds like Mastodon to me.
![]() Is "A Rite of Passage" the song with the clean intro? If so, the first verse needs improvement: it's too bland. EDIT: on the RTP radio, who plays the first song? Porcupine Tree? I love it! |

They sound like a really boring an uninspired metal band.

I heard rite of passage and was so disappointed
![]() Hopefully it's just so stock metal sounding because its gonna be the single? even the instrumental part/solo was so bad, except for the ron jarzombek syncopated part ![]() Also, where is nightmare to remember? |

Yeah that mastodon was good. But really, I hope this is just the DT "single" so its more "conventional" like forsaken from SC. The chorus is kinda catchy but it the whole song feels so... The riffs are so mediocre, stale, unforgettable, stock, etc.

Just listened to A Rite Of Passage....this is one of the most boring things I've heard DT do, there is absolutely NOTHING special about it.
They may have helped create the prog metal cliche, but they seem to have took it upon themselves to write to it now too

This band has definitely plateaued in the songwriting dept. They're in dire need of a creative injection. And as long as Portnoy thinks he can produce the band by himself. I don't see anything new or groundbreaking sounding from these guys again. Well at least I've been a local fan since the WDADU days. So I'm now considering myself fortunate to have been around when I&W and Awake were released. And also to have seen the KevMo and Sherinian lineups. Because this doesn't sound anywhere as good as the material they were putting out back then. Not even remotely close.
