New 7-String Bands: Gracepoint & Mirror Black

Alright, so after attending the Chicago Powerfest, I've come across a couple new bands (new to me at least), so I thought I'd share the wealth, cuz they're damn good and require some whoring IMO. And to boot, they play 7-strings baby!

Gracepoint

These guys are great! Didn't even know of them until I saw them on stage. Damn they were amazing. They hadn't even played on a stage in 4 years. I call shenanigans, cuz they were tight as hell! Very DT-ish, but think Train of Thought era mixed with I&W. Definately check 'em out.

Mirror Black
www.myspace.com/mirrorblack

Along the lines of powermetal I guess, I don't really know how to describe them. Very prog-elements, but still heavy.

And of course, if you don't know of Nocturnal Rites, definately check them out. Unfuckingbelievable!

We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.

Gracepoint definitely kicks ass. I don't think Mirror Black's recorded material does them justice - they were much better live.

Division - American metal that doesn't suck. Much. Even on MySpace, and Soundclick, too.

Gracepoint...I caught them in St. Paul about 5 years ago and thought the same thing, tight as hell. They were playing steinbergers at that point, lots of dual leads and harmonies and stuff. they had a cd out, about 9 tracks I think, my bass player had it but some fucker ripped it off along with his car stereo. I haven't heard a thing about them since I saw that show, although I did find them on Myspace a few weeks ago, I'm hoping they start playing some local shows again.

From what they said on stage, they've been having [spinaltap]drummer problems[/spinaltap]. And they still had the steinbergers, but they were mostly playing Carvin 7-strings.
