Yeah, I was just saying that his lyrics are cheesy sometimes, not particularly on Awake (although I don't think the lyrics on "Awake" are that "great." They just aren't cheesy like on some other songs).

When I saw Dream Theater do the "Master Of Puppets" album, I thought every band member was doing an amazing job except LaBrie. I thought his voice completely sucked on all the songs (his vocals on "Master Of Puppets" was absolutely horrible). I could have done a much much better job than him on the vocals for every single song. I couldn't have done as good of a job on guitar as Petrucci, though. Petrucci nailed everything perfectly.

I probably should get a Dream Theater album, anyway - just because the music is so great. I'd probably get used to LaBries's vocals if I listened to their stuff enough.

I don't own "Awake." In fact, I don't own any Dream Theater CDs. I love the music. Petrucci is one of the coolest guitarists I know of. I love his solo album, "Suspended Animation." But I don't really like the singer for DT. His lyrics are kind of cheesy sometimes and I don't care much for his voice.

(gives up playing 7 strings and decides to play only 6 strings from now on at Drew and Dormant's suggestions)

I'm with Eric on this one, though. I'm just not a big DT fan, even Petrucci is awesome. I like 'em, just eh... Labrie's vocals just always turned me off. Man, 'Lie'... great riff, but I can't honestly say I enjoy or am moved by the lyrics and the singing. 'Octavarium' was the first DT album I heard where I could get past Labrie's singing (which isn't half bad. getting older seems to be taking the "whininess" or whatever that high-pitched quality is to his voice. Not trying offend anyone here with that comment, it's just hwo it 'feels' I guess, to me).

I much prefer Korn or Nevermore if we're talking 7-string music.

I got into 7-strings, however, because of Dime and Pantera. When I started hearing those crazy downtuned guitars, and all those guys who started doing that during the 90's I knew I wanted to go low. When I heard of 7-string guitars, I knew I had to have one. In fact, when I first got a 7, I wasn't even really a fan of ANY 7-string players at the time, even Korn. I got into stuff like DT, Meshuggah, and Nevermore after I started playing a 7.
