George Lynch's first lead break on Macalpine's "Tears of Sahara"
...is possibly the greatest guitar solo of all time.
Discuss.

I'm not sure where we stand on posting a clip from a song, actually, in terms of file sharing. I'll talk to chris - if it's cool, I'll post up. It's like 20 seconds, nothing too huge, but man... George's phrasing is just so odd, yet so perfect. What he's playing isn't too hard, but I can't for the life of me duplicate it.
Anyway, for a CD that you can get for $10-12 most places on line, trust me - it's worth it. It's like neoclassical that doesn't suck (says the blues rock guy on the boards, lol). Melodic as all hell, an Macalpine's a master. |

I have always liked Lynch's playing. He is really... I don't know... fiery or passionate or something. He does a lot in terms of tone, bending, phrasing, slides, whammy stuff, harmonics and note selection. He can shred, too, but I like the medium speed solos. His rhythm stuff is cool and inventive, as well.

Lynch was one of my first big influences. I agree with Drew, you can play the notes he's playing but it's stupid hard to actually sound like him. I've seen bits and pieces of a couple of instructional vids he's done and watching him play is even stranger...If I tried physically playing the way he does, I'd miss every other note. LOL.

It is a great solo! I love that track the best on the whole album though it is hard to choose the best, but this piece moves me, Maximum Security is a brilliant album too. I recommend it to any guitarist. George Lynch is awesome. I liked him back in the Dokken days too and of course Lynch Mob, phenomenal player!
![]() Of course I really like Tony MacAlpine too, I have bought Premonition, Evolution, Violent Machine, Master Of Paradise, Chromaticity and this album Maximum Security which features George Lynch. All these albums are brilliant. ![]() |
