Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductions
Anybody catch it on VH1?
I only saw the Metallica portion of it. Metallica was having a load of fun on stage and you can tell they were having a blast with the Sabbath songs. I think they should just play Sabbath covers from now on - James sounded so different with his high voice. It didn't leave much room for his trademark "yaaaayah" and "Ohhhwa"s. I think i liked it. I was just watching and not really critiquing. But I did notice that the tones were good. That kinda drumming seems to be more Lars' thing these days - just hit hard, swing, etc. He does go overboard with crash cymbals though, but for the songs they chose last night, it seemed to fit the energy. it was really cool to hear those sabbath tunes with modern gear and (relatively ) youthful energy! |

I'd love to hear that - I overheard someone at work talking about that yesterday, and they were favorable, too.

Anyone else think the bassist looks incredibly out of place. When I watched their Some kind of Monster documentary and they got that guy I kept thinking "they look like they've got at least 15 years on him"

Props to James for really stepping out of his normal voice, and just going for it balls out. sure there was a little straining here and there, but he's up there pushing it.
and it doesn't sound bad. i think half of you are going to slag him b/c you want 80's hetfield vox. it aint going to happen. |

The first tune was rough. It just didn't sound good at all. Iron Man sounded a lot better, and James certainly sang it better than Ozzy is capable of doing these days.

Kinda disappointed they didn't do Paranoid, War Pigs, or even Sabbra Cadabra (love their cover on Garage, Inc).
Not bad, though another example of why I hate Fender P-Basses. They just sound like crap compared to the other basses out there. The only times I've liked the sound of a P-Bass, it's had the pickup replaced, and it's running through three different amps and a DI box. |
