Tony Mac - tears of sahara

http://youtube.com/watch?v=sHANPpj5vqY

I know the one of him live was on here by shawn, but the one which shows a bunch of closeups, him playing sitting down I don't believe was posted. Good video, lower sound quality, and he has one hell of a mullet! hahah

Yeah, this is awesome, man is he impressive, I gotta see him live in the future but I can't get an answer to when he will be performing near the Boston area in the near future in his questions for Tony section on his forum. I don't see any tour dates either, he may be busy with other stuff like touring w/Vai. I think he should go on his own.

Seeing him live would be killer, especially with that lineup which I believe is the same lineup on Evolution -Tony Franklin on bass and Mike Terrana on drums.

= his tone, phrasing and performance.

I still think that he would be a good contender for G3. If he gets that gig, then I think my heart will explode.

I also think he's taking a "step down" by going with vai.

Beautiful song...I love how fluid and effortless his playing is.

I don't think the G3 is a step down at all. Playing Vai's music onstage with the man himself is a great gig for any guitarist, whatever their level, and it's meant lots of extra exposure for TMac. When he next goes out on his own a lot of the younger crowd at the Vai shows who won't have heard his Shrapnel albums will be far more likely to come.

Nothing like a good depressant to chase the blues away!

I don't know about that - most of the guys Vai plays with are big enough to tour on their own, but it seems like they enjoy playing with him. Tony Mac fits perfectly into that band - insane guitar, and insane keys

I don't. I view that band as more of a super group. Do you think Mitch Mitchell did himself a disservice by playing with Hendrix? Did Phil Collen take a step down by touring with Eric Clapton, playing drums? I think it's something he wanted to do, and it looks really damn good on the resume. I don't think Vai would let just any guitarist take a solo, and I'm sure there is a lot of mutual respect there.

Vai is only as good as the people he's playing with, so he plays with the best.
