I hear ya, you're right. I do welcome a variety of musical influences/interests. Like I said though, the thing that freaked me out was how he was like, "I want to write exactly this type of stuff" when referring to the NIN tracks. So I'll see how it goes. I'm very interested to hear what he wrote on keyboard but that's one more thing that's got me wondering. Being he's all into the NIN CD I'm wondering if he did the Trent thing and just sat down and wrote NIN styled songs on the keyboard. I mean, I've been writing electronic music on keyboard for the past 7 years and I know it's harder to put guitars to keyboard centered music than it is to put keys to guitar centered music. I hope he left room. Eh, well... we'll see how everything goes

Sounds like the sort of challange that will help you grow as an artist.

FWIW, one of the better jazz drummers I've played with plays Metallica and gigs in a hardcore punk band. You never know...

I think that's definitely the best approach. You're a smart guy, and unfortunately, smart people can be a bit too cerebral at times, and over-think things. Imagine being on a date and just constantly analyzing whether "she's the one!" Ya know? It would be hell, and you'd probably do exactly the opposite of what ya need to do, to see if it'll work. Which is relax, go with the flow, be yourself and put your ideas out there, but also be receptive. Muisc is alot like love and romance, I think.

Just listen to Bruce Lee's advice. He said that you must be like water, and flow. That is the path to success.

usagi has a spectacular aura about
The drummer may think that's what he wants to write but he may like what you're writing. I played in a punk band in college and had a blast even though I didn't even have a passing knowledge of the genre.
