Man, are there any concept albums you DIDN'T mention there?

My personal favorite is Floater's "Angels in the Flesh and Devils in the Bone." I can't say enough about just how amazingly good this album is - a lot of the songs taken on their own aren't quite as good as the two albums before or the one immediately after, but taken as a whole the album just kills. It's a story about one man's search for identity in a world that doesn't encourage individuality, going throug a number of false steps before eventually attempting to commit suicide with a heroin overdose and ending with a Fight Club like ending (the book, not the movie) where he wakes up in a hospital/asylum thinking he's suceeded in killing himself and that this is heaven. It's an absolutely amazing work of art, and I'd love to put this one on theatrically.

I like most of the ones you listed, but there's one I have to add:

Flaming Lips: Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots

It's wacky and it rocks!

Also worth mentioning is Floater's debut, "Sink," and apparently Porcupine Tree's "In Absentia" which both are about the coming of age of abused children.

"Deadwing" was apparently concieved of as the soundtrack to a screenplay Steven Wilson had written, so I guess we have to include that too.

Concept albums, or even just albums with conceptual content, rock.

+1 on anything Porcupine Tree

Tool - Lateralus
I Mother Earth - The Quicksilver Meat Dream
Coheed and Cambria (all of their albums are part of one big story, so they're kind of a concept band )
Green Day - American Idiot
System of a Down - Mesmerize/Hypnotize

There's more, my brain's just blah today.

That's interesting. I hadn't realised that. Apparently 'Streets' was originally written by Paul O Neil as a musical, but Criss Oliva found the manuscript by accident, and they decided to turn it into a concept album.

Too many favourites already mentioned but I can't believe 'Dark Side of the Moon' hasn't been mentioned yet! I much prefer it over 'The Wall' if only because it is about being insane (I guess 'Wish You Were Here' should be mentioned too).

'Deadwing' is growing on me but 'In Absentia' definitely deserves a mention.

I would also mention 'Selling England by the Pound' which is all about the decaying of values in English Culture, and 'The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway' both by Genesis.

If you have a look at the following list (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_concept_albums), I would include numerous albums such as 'Dirt' by Alice In Chains, 'Ride The Lightning' and 'Master of Puppets', 'Once Was Not' by Cryptopsy, and 'Undertow', 'Aenima' and 'Lateralus' by Tool although to be fair I had never really thought of any of these albums as being concept albums before ...
