lol strangely for me, scenes from a memory was the only dream theater album that i liked upon it's first try. All the other ones need at least three listens.

and by overly melodramatic and cliched, do you mean in general or for a dream theater album?

as for contributing to the thread, I really want to say "A Change of Seasons" as my choice but it's just an EP and even then, it's only that one song so I don't know... Whatever, Scenes From A Memory for me, followed by Symphony X's "The Odyssey" (I know it's just that one song but still)!

Having a long song on an album does not make it a concept "album." All the songs on an album have to be connected. Symphony X do not have any concept albums, just horrid lyrics that sound remotely similar.

It might seem that way because Allen has the tendency the recycle the same cliche lyrics over and over. Don't get me wrong, I love Symphony X, and Russell's a cool guy (met him at Gigantour), but I hate their lyrics and they don't make concept albums.

Just read the inside of the booklet; Wicked is about an unlucky traveler that wanders into a cemetary at night, Incantations of the Apprentice is like that Disney film where Mickey is a magicians apprentice and messes everything up, as you can see, nothing even remotely related to the story of the Odyssey, which is entirely covered in the song, The Odyssey.

But The Perfect Element Pt.1 is awesome, too. Hell, anything by Pain of Salvation rocks. I can't wait till they make Part II

They each tell a seperate story thats not related to the main track ;p
F. Ex, King of Terrors is about a E.A. Poe story, Incantations of the Apprentince is about fantasia, Accolade II is a sequal to the previous accolade... Turning is werewolf related.. None of which connect to the title track.. If you have the limited edition, they tell you what all the songs are about in the liner notes.

my fav. concept albums:
Night Of the Storm Rider - Iced Earth
Scenes from a Memory - Dream Theater (last good DT album ).
Art of Life - X Japan (technically an EP.. a 30 minute long song).
Elements - Atheist (All the songs relate to something element related, except 1 or 2).

Korbain - this is about concept albums not regular ones ;p

Glory and praise to Thee, Satan, on high,
Where Thou didst reign, in Hell where Thou dost lie,
Vanquished, silent, dreaming eternally.
Grant that my soul some day rest close to Thee
Under the Tree of Knowledge which shall spread
Its branches like a Temple overhead.
