His talent is beyond, I just listened to Premonition for the 100th time tonight and I must say, where the fuck was I back in 1994 when this album came out?, I was so in a narrow state of mind with music and played only death metal and worshipped James Murphy, Terrance Hobbs and Doug Cerrito from Suffocation, Trey and Morbid Angel, etc. If I had known this album back then, I would be completely different as a musician/guitarist, seriously, this album is way beyond 1994.

But what really amazes me is his work on Evolution, this album dates to 1995, I am such a late bloomer on Tony MacAlpine, it's crazy. Anyway, he is amazing, he blows my mind.

I think Tony's Evolution is like Eric Johnson's Venus Isle, Joe Satriani's Crystal Planet, Vai's Alien Love Secrets, etc....

People's thoughts on money and music tell a lot about them as a musician... or business person... I'll leave it at that.

Ummm... too good as a 2nd guitarist? or better than Vai? If you're saying better than vai, then I'm going to have to say your crazy, but better than to play backup, definately. Everyone here keeps saying they would love to play next to Vai. WELL, do you want to play your own music, and follow your own path? or make shitloads of money, play bigger crowds, and let your personal creativity and style flush for the fame. If you chose the 2nd one... I can't say that you are a musician, but more a guitarist. If you play guitar for money, and fame, and to be on stage, then you're playing for the wrong reasons. Go to college to be a lead business man to make money, and talk infront of large crowds. This is why I think that 95% of metal is retarded. Most of them have 0 talent, or conform their style to a typical way to make money. Go to MTV to do business, stay true if you want to be a musician.

dude, you generalize A LOT.

If let's say, because
I love playing out,
I love being on stage,
I love technical music,
I love having roadies,
I love getting paid (ie supporing my family - stop generalizing that it's about the player's wallet)
I love getting paid to PLAY,
I love the music I'm playing (even if it's not mine),
I love the exposure, etc etc ---
I choose to take the gig, even though I have to put my personal projects on hold....

I don't think i'm a sellout guitarist. I'm still a musician.

Good attitude all round.

If you want to be a professional musician then you have to accept that there will be some element of compromise.

Nothing like a good depressant to chase the blues away!

The worst of it is, you just got called out by a drummer.

* Drew would take the Vai gig, too.

Yes, David, I do believe that Tony MacAlpine is more talented than Vai, as a musician and guitarist, not only is he a very skilled classical pianist but a very skilled guitarist that can write great compositions and has perfect pitch, he's a musical genious IMO.

Though I have known of Vai much longer than T-Mac and have been listening to him longer, I have praised Vai's works still to this day, Tony MacAlpine takes the lead in my book.
