Yeah, that article was pretty merciless...people tend to just pick on him because he makes himself such an easy target.

He's a really amazing guitarist. There are a bunch of scars on the back of his picking hand. I'm not sure I'd want to trade places with him.

The article is obviously biased against any kind of technical guitar playing.

Malmsteen is just the guy to hate these days. Im kinda fascinated with why some guitarist think its just the in thing to rag on him. Maybe it makes them feel better about their own playing? I dont know.

Yngwie's not made himself any friends with his attitude over the years. This level of vehemence, however, is a little ridiculous - perhaps the writer is a member of "the grunge generation"?

Have you guys read the entire thing? Noodles, the section you quote was a description of how he was labeled by his critics, not the "unbiased" opinion of the editorial voice.

Description of shred aside (and, much as I hate to admit it, that's true of about 70% of "shred" acts I've heard and forgotten), it's really pretty even, especialyl considering Yngwie really IS widely reviled as everythiing that's wrong with shred (unjustly - as the article points out, this is a charge best leveled against his imitators, and not the man himself) in popular culture.

Really, aside from that opening paragraph, it's a reasonably fair, honest assessment of the trials he's overcome over his long and storied career. I think so, at least...

Though in my defense, let me point out that while even I have to admit there was a lot wrong with the grunge generation, there was also a lot right, and that it's another genre where subsequent imitation has made it far to easy to slag off on the genre's founders. In particular, what turned me on to the genre as a kid was the emotional honesty of the lyricism, and the raw, huge-sounding, very "live" instrument tones.

I love the part tha part about him being an unruly child. Could you imagine Yngwie in diapers ????

He'd prolly put Stewy to shame.
