Songwriting wise? It all sounds like a bunch of stuff they learned in music theory played blazingly fast and clean. Yes you must be dedicated to achieve this, but where is the passion?
you just said the passion right there, "you must be dedicated to achieve this." People who CAN play it have more passion than someone who doesn't. They took the time to learn it, and love it. Listen to Perpetual Burn and tell me there's no passion. If you think Jason had no passion, and feel, and flow, or anything music related, I want you to sell your guitar right now.

Not to mention that Concerto, Perpetual Burn, Mabel's Fatal Fable, owns everything else melodicly, and with feel. The 2nd half of Mabel's is extremely hard to play, becuase it's emotion with the whammy... go listen if you think shred is boring, I think you'll change your mind.

Nobody can have passion near jasons, vai's, etc, by just playing shitty ass powerchords for metal riffs or punk songs.

I see the problem here. We are viewing "shred" as 2 different things.

When I think "shred" I think a bunch of fast junk to show off what you can do.

I think yngwie is an awesome guitar player. I to this day still listen to him a good deal - I really enjoy his playing and his compositions. I think of all the "shred" Players Yngwie played with the most feeling... Yngwie live is just awesome

I saw Yngwie live at GMM last year, and though I enjoy his plaing I was bored to bits.
Guess it's a hit & miss thing

Trust your ears.

In life and music, what is is but that doesn't always mean it's what it should. Change, is in our hands.

would have been bad if 2 weeks ago i saw malmsteen driving a 308 GTS and i pulled up next to him and yelled "Michael Romeo does it better!" and sped off? cause i like totally didn't do that, nope, not at all,.....<_< >_> hehehehe

malmsteen is still a great guitar player but someone should ban him from writting songs with lyrics to em. in fact i bet he would be waaaay cooler if someone else wrote parts for him to play. ima go listen to rising force, its been a while.

As I've said before, people I know that know him say he plays blues and Hendrix-y stuff - awesomely, apparently - for his personal enjoyment, but that he knows where his bread is buttered.

He *really* shouldn't be allowed to write lyrics, though - dead on, V.

Division - American metal that doesn't suck. Much. Even on MySpace, and Soundclick, too.

I saw him in London last year and near the end of the show (before the guitar smashing) he did a blues song...his singing wasn't great but the guitar work was very cool. He knows his stuff.
