He was saying that a lot of his students either had great alternate picking, or great legato, but never both. So, he'd make them practice stuff like this, so they could get comfortable with both, and be able to mix it up:

Yeah - they had to wait for him to graduate from high school before they could go on tour.

Division - American metal that doesn't suck. Much. Even on MySpace, and Soundclick, too.
