I think I'm the only person in history who prefers Testament with Murphy to the restof the albums. The Gathering and Low are just in-fucking-credible, IMO.

Murph's a great guitar player, and those are excellent discs. Skol was an innovator, though - he was the first guy to really take a shred/ripping arpeggios approach to thrash lead playing...

Skolnick's column in Guitar Player was consistently intimidating to me growing up. I remember the lesson where you were supposed to play full three note to a string diatonic scales, alternating between alternate picking and legato as you moved from string to string. Try it sometime, it is actually pretty tricky.

Huh, why would you want to do that?!???! , and wouldn't the legato string still have to start with an upstroke?
