Steely Dan Tribute

Although there may not be many Steely Dan fans on this site, for those of you who are, here is something to look forward to:

Saw this on the Steve Morse site, and in this Mike Varney profile piece on studioexpresso.com. Jeff Richman is producing another tribute album for the Tone Center label. This time it's a Steely Dan tribute including Steve Morse, Mike Stern, Robben Ford, Al DiMeola, Steve Lukather, Jimmy Herring, Jay Graydon, Elliot Randall, and others. I love Steely Dan. This should be awesome!

See, that's one of the few bands that I've just NEVER been able to get into... Anything with that sort of talent though is worth a listen, so who knows.

Another Steely Dan fan here. The Royal Scam is a particular favorite of mine.

I've never understood people who say that. I used to pop the "Greatest Hits" or "Aja" disc in all the time when I was on my way downtown to party - it's Saturday-Night-drink-Scotch-neat-and-end-up-with-someone-of-the-opposite-sex-you've-known-for-a -few-hours-in-a-drunken-tangle-music.

This could be a cool tribute - you'd HAVE to have people of that caliber involved, 'cause SD's music is damn hard to play.

Yeah, on one hand I agree with you, but on the other, "Reelin' in the Years" is just one of those songs that grates on my nerves like few other.

Of course, on the other hand, I pop in Sublime's "40 Oz to Freedom" for much those same reasons, which I could see you responding similarly to...

Eh, my cover band plays "Santeria", but I'm not much of a fan. Sublime's more a get-drunk-and-wave-my-nine-around-menacingly sort of thing to me.

I grew up listening to Steely Dan. I have their greatest hits on cd.

* Shawn would like to admit that since he covers Santeria by Sublime, that it is a great song and fun to play and people love it and they sing along
