Damn, did that guy ever get lyrics right?? I've checked out about 10 videos of him and they're all effed up. Eddie must have had to totally tune that shit out to be able to the songs right.

No, but he had "charisma"--or so they tell me...

I like the DLR-era albums the best, but Roth himself was always the weak link.

Dave was more interested in being a rock star than a musician. It was all about the show to him, and that was one of Eddie's biggest complaints. Most people don't know that practically all of his vocals tracks in the studio were done one or two lines at a time.

haha, I knew that! and I cracked up when I found out.

I've never seen a video of him live, could he sing the same as on the albums? I'm guessing it was utter shit.

Oh, and, I still liked him more than Sammy Haggar.

It's the same problem as Phil Anselmo in Pantera. From a musician's point of view he was definitely a weak link, both from a vocal and work ethic standpoint, but unfortunately that was part of the chemistry that made the original Van Halen so unique. Genius rarely makes sense if you analyse it objectively.
Oh, and yes, he's very very deluded and annoying.
