My Lifeson "Freewill" guitar sound (repost)

All,
The last version of this thread got hosed, so I'm reposting!! Now is your chance to change your comments!!

I've been weeding through patches & settings to get just the right Alex Lifeson (RUSH) sound for "Freewill." In the end, it came down to a '94 Mesa Recti, with a plithera of FX (so typical of Alex). Overall I think it's damn close! Maybe the gain could be turned down a bit...

The singing on this isn't perfect, as it's just tetering at the edge of my range. I tried doubling them in places for effect...sometimes the two vox are not in perfect sync.

I'm working on mastering the solo now. It's one of those EASY yet DIFFICULT Lifeson solos! Easy, as his licks are fairly simple, Difficult to get the raw aggression & weird timing right!! As soon as I have the solo down I'll add it!!

I've got to sing & play it at the same time this weekend. Don't ask me why I keep volunteering to do that... I guess not many students there can sing & play at the same time, so I keep getting pulled in

Brian,
Nice job! I think the tone is very close to the original. I'll need to listen to this again when I get home to get a better feel for it, but it sounded pretty darn close. The vocals sounded really good too. I can't sing but I can imagine that Geddy can't be the easiest singer to replicate. Especially the older stuff.... Man he used to get way up there. I like the parts you doubled.
I have to admit that the solo in Freewill is one of my least favorite solo's from Alex, but I like this song as a whole.

Nice job. Let us know when the solo has been added.
