I stopped buying the guitar mags much later than I should have (probably late 90's)...but I never threw any of them away, so I've got alot of killer old tabs

(Besides, i don't want to have a computer in the workshop.)
Ditto, just for me it's Smithsonian, largely because it's such a wide range of information that I probably wouldn't randomly stumble across, and it's usually very well written.

I find I use magazines and newspapers (I try to pick up the Boston Globe Sunday edititon every now and then) as more of a different way of gathering information - if I have specific questions, the internet can't be beat. But when you're looking to browse through information in no particular order and let come what will, well it's a very different and very enjoyable process.

I'm with you. I haven't picked up a guitar magazine in a while, mainly because since around 1999, no new gear or bands have come out that I'm all that interested in (sans Soilwork / In Flames, which if ever are barely covered in print media anyway).

My wife knows I'm a big sports fan, and last year for my birthday, she got me a subscription to Sports Illustrated. Talk about unneeded. If you think there's enough info on the internet for musicians, there's 1000 times that for sports info. Not just that, but cancelling SI is a bit of a pain because they auto-renew. So I get an SI every week or two that I never read now.

The only mags worth reading are the free local liberal mags that support local music. The New Times is a national corporate chain, and their phoenix area paper is very much of the time on-top of things IMO. Here in Phoenix, College Times and Slam are great local free rags too.

Beelzebloke is a jewel in the rough
I used to get TOO MANY mags, now I restrict myself to Guitar Techniques, Dirt(MTBmag), Focus(Sciencemag) & of course the mighty Fortean Times, the only mag I'd ever consider subscribing for.

There's a weekly local (Bristol) music&"what's on" type mag (Venue) which is cool for the gig-guide, and I also get either Terrorizer or Zero Tolerance every now & then if no-one's got one I can borrow for a flick-through.

Jesus, I still buy too many magazines!!!

It makes me feel kinda stupid buying mags when I could probably find all the same/similar info on the internet, but there's something nice about casually leafing through a new mag...

Same sentiment here, Vin, Drew. Only magazine I read anymore is National Geographic (which is a terrific magazine, BTW). Like D says, I can find out WAY more info in a 20 second search, or on here, than I could in the mags. They don't even really mention 7-string guitars.

A sevenstring guitar magazine would be pretty cool though.

Dylan7620 is just really niceDylan7620 is just really nice
i had a subscription to pc gamer at one time, i dunno how i got it, because i didn't sign up for it. and i didn't pay for it. but they sent me a years worth of mags with demo discs for free. hell i'm not one to complain.

i use to get a whole lot of guitar mags, i'd always just get them off the shelf, theres always one or two things in em that draw intrest. but all i see are huge 1 and two page ads for products. vauge reviews of gear and lots of lame players.

"learn how to rock with tips from satch, petrucci and yellowcard" WTF is that. not to be to proud or anything but i think i can rock just fine without someone from yellow card telling me how to play.

"are there gonna be snacks? i heard there were gonna be snacks."

Once I get a cat5 connection in my bathroom, I'll build a media center server in there.

Then I can get all my info, watch TV, and play games, all without leaving the comfort of the john.
