Trent Reznor Walks out during Concert

This occured at a concert last night in WI

"Some a-hole in the crowd as Trent was singing Hurt, threw a f***ing lighter at him and hit him in the lip. No one knew what was going on, b/c he just threw down the keyboard in the middle and walked off stage! No one in the crowd where I was on the floor knew what was going on. Then my brother ran into someone up front and they told him what happened. Crowd members beat the crap out of the guy who did it and security got him. I'm just very p.o.ed b/c that definitely wasn't the last song and we missed out on the rest of a f***ing awesome concert. I don't belong to the official fan club so I--as I'm sure everyone at the concert in Grand Rapids, MI--can apologize for the imbecile, who I really hope got a sound beating. We just don't want Trent and the band to be so pissed that they never come back here."

Sounds reasonable to me. I'd have walked off too. Though I probably would have had a word or two for the guy in the crowd first, then let the crowd handle him.

I think it's quite stupid to be honest. You have to appreciate that some of your fans are going to be complete pricks.

I remember seeing Fugazi a few years ago and someone chucked a beer at Ian Mackaye and he just stopped playing, asked "who did that?", everyone pointed at the idiot and he got chucked out. Fugazi then went on to play a 2 and a half hour set.

Trent sounds like he is being a bit of a baby spoiling it for everyone else who paid to see them.

We share this world with a number of extremely stupid people and I for one don't think I deserve to be punished because someone else has bad judgement.

Yeah but, who the fuck wants to get hit in the lip with a lighter?

And yes, the crowd tore him up, supposedly they continued to kick him while he was on the ground and security had to extract him.

I forget what band it was...I think marilyn manson, but any way they chucked a glass beer at the singer and he grabbed it and asked "who the fuck through this?" then made the guy come on stage and pick it up, then snatched it from him and threw it at his head and made him get off the stage.

Or something along those lines.

Although he has every right to be pissed off about something like that, storming offstage when people other than that one guy have paid to see the show is both immature and unprofessional.
For fuck's sake, Dimebag got fucking shot onstage last year! You'd think that would help put things like this in perspective!

that's just one more reason to get OFF the stage. If all he did was throw a lighter at him, then I guess that's pretty rediculous, but if he got burnt, or it hit his teeth or gums and fucked something up, then I can understand.

Sorry, I'm not laughing at you ... take a lighter and throw it at one of your friends - if any of the things you mentioned actually happened (especially if he got burnt) you would piss yourself laughing ... one of my friends had a lighter thrown at him after a long night out getting fucking wrecked and it blew up on his knee - it was very funny and scared the shit out of him!

I'm with Distressed Romeo on this one - concerts should be monitored more extremely in light of what happened with Dimebag (RIP) at the door, but once your in, the performer has a duty to give you your money's worth.

I can see your point about what it meant for the rest of the crowd, but I can also see the other side, that this guy paid good money to be at the show and decided to throw shit at the stage. What goes through a person's head that makes that seem like a good idea? Think of the major festivals lately: it's been a barrage of water bottles (usually empty, sometimes full, not always with water ) towards the stage at a lot of them. I think it started with Woodstock 99. Sure, some kid threw a lighter this time, but what if he'd stayed on stage? That just says to douchebags like that kid "Oh yeah? What else you got?" and the situation can escalate.

You know what would solve all of this?

A giant plexiglass window between the stage and the crowd.
