The New DragonForce...Meh. Is it Just Me OR...

Ok so I just listened to a song off the new DragonForce CD, Inhuman Rampage. The song is called Through the Fire and Flames
http://www.dragonforce.com/
which you can download. Now is it just me or does this song sound like it came off their prvious album. I mean I really want to like like it, I love what they did prior to this, I think they're phenomenal, however there is nothing new here, very formulaic. Please someone correct me if I am wrong!

I have just the album i have only had a listen to the first 5 songs but what i have heard so far is really good but just a bit boring its all very similar. This is my first dragon force album are they all like this there just seems to be too many fast songs. I like a few medium tempo songs just to break things up are there some on the album i guess i,ll find out tonight when i listen to the rest.

I've got the whole thing. I don't think it's worth the hype - it's not bad, but it gets same-y VERY fast.

Dang, I guess I'm right then huh...oh well hopefully they'll learn from it and change things up. On the CD prior, Sonic Firestorm there's a song on the latter half of the CD called Prepare for War. Now I thouught the band would progress towards something like this, similar to lets say Opeth's journey...unfortunatley this isn't the case!

Yeah its a grower but you can't help but think they are capable of so much more. Its their best album and best songs but imho its just Sonic Firestorm tweaked and improved in places. Still I don't think they are ever gonna change and we're likely to get 10 or so albums of this.

If you're just getting into them then the new cd would be fine for you...but it does sound exactly like the older material.

To my mind their first album "Valley Of The Damned" is the best. The songs are far more catchy and they are not totally obsessed with speed. I love every song on this album which I can't say for "Sonic Firestorm" or "Inhuman Rampage". But maybe it's because I listened to "Valley..." many many many times and the other two just need to grow as Toshiro mentioned.

My favourite Dragonforce song is "Black Winter Nights". Their best song ever!

Actually, I tend to agree with you. Valley had the best music, Firestorm and the new one have better recording/mix.

Still it's powermetal, and intentionally crazy powermetal at that. They have Super Mario samples for crying out loud. Better to be 'boringly the same' than 'intentionally shitty for radio play', IMO.

Every song on the new album sounds the same to me. Really boring to listen to after the first track.

Well, a lot of Powr Metal is pretty formulaic. So, i doesnt come as a surprise to me. However, if it sounds like Dragonforce i'll like it lol.

Bizarrely, Dragonforce's incomprehensible speed makes their songs repetitive and dull. That new one for download is pretty damn painful.

Before they called themselves "Dragonforce" they were named "Dragonheart" but they had to change it. Maybe because of the stupid movie with Dennis Quaid.

I don't find them convincing to be honest. They seem just like a parody of a power metal band to me. Don't get me wrong, I love decent power metal like Angra, Sonata Arctica or Kamelot...

Or like Iced Earth?

They are not a parody my opinion, they defined their own "unique" style & are pretty good in what they are doing. Maybe the songwriting is not up to Iron Maiden standards (when they had their peak) but all their albums blew me away. And as hundreds said before me ... their music grows. Every time you listen to their songs again you'll find some new bits and pieces you didn't hear before.
