Help me choose an amp

I plan on ordering a 2 x 12" combo amp this evening. I currently play through a Peavey Duel 212 which I like a lot but I have always wanted a amp with more distortion. The amp I am currently leaning towards is the Peavey 6505 2x12 combo. What do you all think of this amp and do you think I could do better for anywhere near the same price?

Those are great but you'll save a shit ton of money finding a used 5150 (exact same amp). What kind of tone are you going for? Maybe give a band's tone that you may be wanting to get close to and I may be able to suggest something.

Well I drank a few Heinekens and said to hell with it and ordered one. I'm getting married soon and this is a little wedding gift to myself. I have a Peavey Rockmaster which I like a lot and I hear the 6505 has a similar level of distortion but sounds a lot better. I'd get a used 5150 but I'd prefer not having the Van Halen reference on it and I like buying new gear if I am pretty sure I'll be keeping it for some time.

I received the 6505 today. It sounds incredible for the minute or so that it works before it blows a fuse. Hopefully zzounds has my replacement out tomorrow. It's been my first time dealing with them and it has not gone so smooth. The defective amp is just icing on the cake.

I have had a 6505 for a a couple months and I have been very happy with it. No fuse issues here, although I bought it slightly used off Ebay. I have heard only good things about the amp, so at this point I would assume you just got a lemon, and the replacement will be fine.

The replacement was also defective with the same problem. If I turn the master volume up past 3 the fuse blows within a few mins. It's serial number was only 3 away from the first amp so it doesn't seem to be a isolated incident. My next move is to make the 2 hour drive to guitar center tomorrow to find the amp for me. Once again I ask for suggestions.

Hrm... maybe I haven't tested mine enough? I rarely get past "3" on the lead channel post-gain as I am usually playing in the house and "3" is fricking LOUD with the preamp gain around "8".

I will give it some hard playing in the next few days and make sure I don't have the same problem....

I have the worst luck. I bought a Mesa Boogie Rectoverb yesterday. I hadn't had it home 5 minutes and I notice a very long screw hanging from the bottom of the chassis. Whatever it screwed into is now loose inside the darn amp so It's going back! I now have $3600 in amps that all must be returned. I'm so bummed.

I have been to Pied Piper in Charleston one time about 15 years ago. I live in Charles Town so my nearest good guitar store is 2 hours away. I'm on a mission for tone so I'll be making that drive today. hehe
