Metallica Cover Contest - Its over! Submissions Inside

Well, now that I have got my act together, here is the final thread! We ended up with ten entries (with around twenty original interested people) so that isn't bad at all, considering there were no real prizes or anything. We ended up with some very disparate entries, from Azathoth's massively downtuned rendition, to jacksonplayer's weird electric jazz fusion version, to eleven59's really cool folksy version, to Variant's reimagining of what MOP would have sounded like were it performed on a 12 string guitar.

We also had some great note-for-note covers done, like catacylsm child's YouTube video (that features his nifty editing and camera tricks) and Makele's honest to the source performance. bobbyretelle bust out a furious Spiral Architect rendition of the tune. Actually he made it as a joke, but whatever he ended up with was pretty cool

thedonutman was also one of the few to do vocals as well, and his unconventional delivery of Hetfield's lyrics is quite striking. Mattayus also played a 7 stringin' version of the song, but didn't manage to tune quite as low as Azathoth

even with just a step difference between them though, the final products are much different.

Finally, Thomas dropped a very nice version of the song, making extensive use of production tricks (and lots of patience) to use three instances of EZDrummer at the same time to get a great drum sound for his own complete cover of the song.

So, take a listen to the entries and discuss that merits of each. I'd encourage all the participants to post in here as well, and I'll be repping everyone who submit an entry

The Entries
Mattayus - Mattayu's MOP Cover which may just be the intro, but it is seriously downtuned and sounds totally crushing as a result.

jacksonplayer - jacksonplayer's MOP Cover in Cuban Jazz style which is the most far-out bonzo rendition of the song in this contest and is made of win. Words fail really - give it a listen.

catacylsm child's YouTube video cover playing two guitar parts with elaborate editing and a nice quiet backing track

thedonutman - thedonutman's MOP Cover which is very faithful to the original version of the song, in the same tuning and tempo and everything. He's got a sweet kind of industrial-meets-Hetfeild kind of vocal thing going on.

Makele - Makele's MOP Cover which features a tight guitar tone and riffing in a style true to the original.

Azathoth43 - Azathoth's MOP Cover is probably the outright winner for lowest tuned version. It sounds like he is somewhere in the neighborhood of A for this punishing rendition of the original tune.

Thomas - Thomas's MOP Cover featuring a very impressive mix with a hell of a lot of EZDrummer action (But I'm having problems DLing this one so more will have to wait)

Vision's 12 string acoustic MOP cover, an unaccompanied performance of the full song

eleven59 - eleven59's MOP Cover in weird alternative acoustic style which would have been the most out there entry if it wasn't for jacksonplayer's entry. Dallas Green could release this as a single and make millions.

bobbyretelle - bobbyretelle's sweet chaotic MOP cover

Not a serious attempt, it is either sloppy or brilliant depending on your taste

We ended up with a pretty decent bunch of entries! All right!

No shit, man! Goddamned song took forever to figure out, just so that I could totally tear it apart. Couldn't we have done something comparatively simple and stupid like "Enter Sandman"??
