It's about ....ing time we had one of these. I'm a big time old school metal fan. CARCASS is the sole band responsible for me tuning my 6-string down to B in the early 90s. Ultimately, this moved me on to 7-strings.
WHO ELSE LOVES THEM SOME CARCASS? ![]()

![]() Necroticism rules. If you list your gear in your signature, you're a prick.

The first riff I played when I got my seven string was "No Love Lost" (although I already played it on detuned sixes)
Enough said, GREAT band... they showed me a whole new world on the heavier side of metal back then.

Oh man, my appreciation for them is beyond measure. Bill Steer is a walking god in my eyes. His use of low B (when no one else was) combined with his very odd use of chords sent shivers down my spine when I first heard it. So much so that I actually found myself in a CARCASS tribute called (appropriately) SYMPHONIES OF SICKNESS. Great times. I was lucky enough to catch them on the Heartwork tour. Now that they are touring again, I really hope there's a full US tour.
And yeah, when I got my first 7 in 1997, I think I played all of Necroticism & Heartwork before anything else.

HEARTWORK was the record that brought me back from hardcore into death metal, and its still one of my alltime favourites.

Heartwork was one of the first death metal albums I ever heard and enjoyed. It still rules, as does Necroticism

It puzzles me greatly that people going on about Carcass at the moment favour the later albums and not their arguably more ground breaking earlier records. Also, while Bill Steer was one of the earlier 6 string players tuning to B he was not the only one doing it at the time. Godflesh and Bolt Thrower for example were both tuning to B on 6 stings at the same time.
Awesome band but going on the youtube footage I've seen recently I think they should have stuck to not being active. |

![]() I like grindcore (but not in heavy doses) and death metal/melodic death metal. And Carcass did all those genres great. They were one of the very first bands to do grindcore (specifically goregrind), being one of the fathers of the genre, and they are usually considered the first band to ever do melodic death metal. And they did it all great. Like many others in this thread, my favorite Carcass album is Heartwork, followed by Necrotism. |

Bill Steer = God on guitar. He may not be the fastest, or flashiest, but man, his solo's are awesome, have taste, and sounds like himself all the time.
Been into carcass for years now, heartwork + necroticism, and I actually like partsa of swansong, even if it isn't their best. Hell, I even own the blackstar album (now we'll see who remembers that one )

People can diss Swansong all they want... but I think itīs a great, perfect record.
Childīs Play is one of the best metal songs ever. Itīs like a haunted Death Metla Black Sabbath, I canīt describe it, the riffs are pure gold. |
