So I was listening to the new Dragonforce...

So I was listening to the new DragonForce song on Myspace. The solo kicked in. After a minute or so...

I quite literally fell asleep. I'm not talking just got really bored of it. I mean I really, truly fell asleep. Snoring and everything.

It's so similar to everything on the last album. They've pushed the whole videogame noises thing entirely too far. Not to mention the overabundance of 'power' and utter lack of 'metal' in everything they've done, which is somewhat dissapointing, because they get the occasional riff in that's got some heft. Alas, it seems like everytime they're finally about to bring something meaty to the table, they suddenly do a 180 and swap that nice juicy steak for a giant falsetto marshmallow.

Sounds like me with every single dragonforce song... I love how they can't even play their "epic solos" exactly the same way live, they just... improvise and it sounds like crap.

I remember seing some live vid of them, and the solos really just sounded like random notes played in some random time... I can't imagine how they are able to play their stuff in the studio.

I tried several times and I can´t get into this band. It just doesn´t do anything for me.

But I do respect them.

Good to know I'm not the only one who dislike this band.
Most of Dragonforce fans I know are below 14 yo and also like people like Rusty Cooley.

That's not a fair comparison, Rusty can actually play his shit, and I'm sure he plays it well live. Anyone else seen that video where they slowed Dragonfarce's STUDIO songs down to like half speed and shit, and theres tons of dead notes and stuff? I mean, that's their studio stuff. Sure, they can play better than I can, but that doesn't take much, but I also wouldn't go and record myself trying to do something I can't and then turn around and expect people to buy it.

There are also the ever-present rumours that their recorded stuff is sped up in post-production. I can't listen to them for long enough to really form an opinion, that shit gives me migraines

The only song I liked off the last album was "Body Breakdown" because of the cool midsong breakdown and keyboard solo.

I can't say I hate the band though...

Is it just me or does dragonforce put "Far Away" at least ONCE into each of their songs?

I can't even wrap my mind around how terrible this band is. I'm usually not that hateful towards music, but bands like Dragonforce just piss me off. Every song is literally the same in melody, arrangement, and overall tone, yet these kids eat it all up because they're on Guitar Hero and MTV told them it's real metal. Not only do they make the cheesiest, most generic bullshit excuse for music; they can't even play their instruments and they're always drunk, arrogant pricks.

UGH is on a distinguished road
Aren't they one of these Pro Tools bands? From everything I've read I believe they just hammer out take after take and then piece it all together. From what I understand this is also the modus operandi of a lot of these metalcore "bands" that just chug out a bunch of mindless riffage and cut and paste the fuck out of 'em. Music? Hardly!

Thats about the worst comparison I've ever heard. Have you listened to any Outworld or are you basing your opinion on the 30 second clips of RC that you saw on youtube?

I noticed that as well. It's almost as bad as Zakk Wylde and his use of the word 'child' I swear to God I hear that AT LEAST 3 times in each of his songs.

I like Nevermore, but do you ever notice how Warrell Dane is always saying "my friend". Even since Sanctuary.

A friend of mine once went to a dragonforce show once, and at the time he only knew that through the fire and flames song or something because it was on guitar hero. And the first song when the chorus came up he was like "Yeah this is it!" a couple of seconds later, he realized it wasn't it, next song came up, same deal, after about 6 songs in, he remembered the exact words and finally they started playing that song

Or 'pigs' on TGE.

Akerfeldt from Opeth says "Demise" a lot too.

I love DragonForce. Going to see them in September and I can't wait. The difference is, I'm not one of those fans that think they're the best guitarists evar and all that crap. I think they're good players, just a bit sloppy live... and to be fair nobody mentions the other members. Vadim (keys) and Dave (drums) are always 1000% accurate when playing live.

I liked Dragonforce since Valley of the Damned back in '03 and I'm not gonna change my mind because narrow minded people say "Oh, it all sounds the same, they suck live, blah blah".
