By the way, could we recommend eachother some works? CD's, MP3's and so on? I've got a load of different stuff to recommend, and I'm always on the lookout for new electronica.
Downtempo - Boards of Canada "The campfire headphase" Trance/house - Mili Sefic "Progressive mix" (http://www.milisefic.com/mixes/Mili%...%205-29-04.mp3) Obiquitous techno - The Prodigy "Fat of the land" and "Music for the jilted generation" |

Yeah Prodigy is cool, you'd probably like Chemical Brothers, Leftfield and that kind of stuff.
Weird shit - Aphex Twin, Squarepusher Soundscapey - Raison D'etre I quite like a lot of the Front Line Assembly stuff, the album Millenium has some guitar samples in from Slayer, Pantera, Fear Factory etc. the rest is more 'industrial industrial'. I'm looking to get into more Psy/Goa/Dark Trance as that stuffs sounds quite 'fun' to my ears. On the JP forum, this guy Mumblefood made these INCREDIBLE 2+ hour ambient mixes. Amazing stuff for in-bed listening! I'll go find the links. |

I havent clicked the Link to the guide yet, but I can safely say I already know what I like as far as Electronic music is concerned.
Alot of people fail to see how BROAD the genre of "techno" (god, how I hate that term) is. If you put Andy C and DJ Tiesto in a room together, you'd have night and day differences in the music. As far as what I LIKE goes, I am pretty picky. I like MOST drum'n'bass stuff. I have followed the evolution of the genre over the years, so most of the different sub genres are to my taste, but I lean towards the darker more technical stuff versus the more happy up-beat stuff (like jump-up or jungle). I also like old hardcore. I'm not talking Norma Jean, and I'm not talking "Happy Hardcore" but just hardcore. AK1200's older stuff is a good example. Old The Prodigy is borderline as well (Experience and Music For The Jilted Generation). It's the pre-cursor to d'n'b. Real fast, mostly beat-based, some emphasis on melody, most mostly on drums. Liam Howlett from The Prodigy is IMO the best electronic music producer of all time. Alot of people fail to see his greatness. Most people in the USA know The Prodigy from a few hits like "Firestarter" and "Breathe" and possibly "Smack My Bitch Up". There were all radio-friendly songs because they actually had vocals dominantly through them. This is actually out of the norm for The Prodigy. The Prodigy actually consists of one person, Liam Howlett. He producers/writes/programs/records each and every song they put out. A few select tracks featured vocals by Keith Flint, and Maxim Reality, but I never considered them band members. If you want a few good tracks to listen to, so that you can get a REAL feel of what The Prodigy is all about, check out "No Good (Start The Dance)", or "Their Law (Pop Will Eat Itself Mix)" both from Music for The Jilted Generation. Liam Howlett also put out an AMAZING mix cd called "The Dirtchamber Sessions: Volume 1" that is breathtaking. He mixes together songs that he likes, and it covers the spectrum from Janes Addiction, to Oasis, to Roni Size, to KRS-1, etc... It's a must have. I also like some IDB type stuff, like Aphex Twin. But Aphex Twin (Richard D. James and all his aliases) is really the only one that gets my attention. Squarepusher just always sounded like a rip-off to me. The mysteries and oddball characteristics of Aphex also amuses me. Some good current artists to check out are Paul B, Black Sun Empire, Pendulum, Evol Intent, Dieselboy, and Technical Itch.

I think Aphex Twin and Squarepusher are different enough from one-another to listen to them both. I like Squarepusher's "Go spastic!", "Venus no.17" and "Port rhombus", but Aphex Twin's "Windowlicker" and "Drukqs" convey such a frickin' wide array of emotions, it's uncanny. Anyways, you mentioned DJ Tiesto in there... Got anything to recommend in the same way? I've got his Magik-series ("First flight" is absolutely orgasmic!) and I'd love to find some more. And I'd like to tip off Mili Sefic again. If you dig trance and house - check him out! |

Very interesting. The industrial section under "trance" was where a lot of the bands I love are. "Goth", "Industrial", "Dark Wave", "Cold Wave", "Industrial Rock", "Experimental", etc. etc. Good stuff
They had some bands I really like in there like "Switchblade Symphony" and "VNV Nation" (and all the Industrial rock bands. heh) Lots of cool goth bands on there too like Sisters Of Mercy and Bauhaus.I was kind of shocked that they put VNV Nation in "Futurepop." It's definitely goth and industrial, but "futurePOP"? Well, they put Skinny Puppy in DarkSynth. So I guess... I love VNV Nation... Then there's j-pop in there which I kind of like and kind of don't. It's really catchy and gets stuck in your head. |

Cool site. Especially since I play in a band that labels itself somewhere in the ebm/darkwave/industrial area. Now I can find out what all of those things mean.
