Personally, of all the styles he emulates, I think Guthrie's own style is far more enjoyable. It has a playfully suave and sophisticated vibe, clever hooks and intriguging phrasing, but the music isn't taking itself seriously. Absolutely incredible if you ask me.

*And trust me, I LOVE Al Di Meola, (who is crazy full of himself) and I like Govan's music better*

My favorite guitarist Gotta love his Zakk Wylde impression, complete with overuse of pinch harmonics.

Easily my favorite too, the Zakk bit came across more as a mocking than a tribute...

I went to the Guitar masterclass and clinic on June 30th near Toronto at Cosmo Music (wonderful store if anyone is in the area). I drove from Sterling Heights, Michigan, which is about 5 hours one way, but it was more than worth it. The masterclass had about 12 people and we got to talk to him and ask him playing questions for about 2 and a half hours. This was a totally amazing experience. Then the clinic was later on that day and he was totally ripping on Sevens, Waves, Erotic Cakes, and Fives. If he ever comes anywhere near any of you guys, you should do yourself a favor and see him. Seeing him live is a completely different experience than watching his live vids and listening to the cd. I can't stress enough how amazing it was. I'm done ranting.

I agree, I saw him do a few songs at music live a few years back - at the time i as oblivious to his talents. And let's just say I've been a fan ever since. The guy is the most ridiculous player I've ever seen - and it seems to come so naturally to him. Him just messing about doing legato lines with 1 hand whilst drinking, nonchalently improvising better phrased "licks" than the rest of us can at 100% concentration. Crazy good.

I was literally 2 feet away from him while he was doing some demos at NAMM and unfortunately he was pretty busy with that. I just watched and drooled! Such an amazing and under-rated player. When I see some of the names and faces constantly showing up in Guitar World and mags like that and NEVER see his, it makes me really sad to think that guys like him are not even being noticed when they should be.

That was ....ing awesome. The whole Malmsteen/ Paul Gilbert Part was brutal. Same goes for the Satch/Vai part. It's amazing how he nailed all those styles.

Don't take anything I say here personally, I'm just here to talk about guitars while I'm not watching Brazzers.

Man, I wonder how many hours he spent practicing. Probably somewhere close to every waking hour of his life. Pays off though, can't really complain.

He started playing when he was 3, so he quite a bit of a head start on most people.

Thats a great clip. He's such a class all round guitarist. It seems like there is nothing he can't play. That video shows how in control of his tone he is too.
