dougsteele is just really nicedougsteele is just really nice
As much as I'd like them to release something that's gonna 'kick ass', I think they're done. Hard to write angry music when you're filthy fucking rich. The first time I heard the black album, I knew they were in the VH/Def Leppard Stadium zone and that eventually the music would suffer.

Thankfully, I have Meshuggah to love.

Money is the root of all bad Metal songwriting.

It depends on what you've listened to. You could turn on any modern rock or hip hop station and i'd be assaulted by songs i've never heard of from artists whose names i've only heard in passing, yet they seem to be 'big.'

But for sake of argument - look at Iron Maiden. Their new shit isnt exactly their most amazing material, but its pretty solid. And they're probably MORE famous then metallica (maybe not in America). Brave new world (they released in 2000 or so) is one of their top discs. Their vocalist Bruce Dickinson also released a bunch of kickass albums after quitting maiden in the mid 90s. Their last two albums, like i said, are good but not their best. But they're definitely Iron Maiden, and defintiely i something i'd rather listen to than anything metallica's done since 1988.

Black Sabbath got Dio back and is selling tons and tons of tickets at concerts. They released 3 new songs. And none of them were gay. They didn't try to "evovle" or get therapists or any of that shit. They were like "Damn, ever since Dio quit sabbath, there's been a void left that only awesome fucking sabbath songs can fill" so they decided to make more.

I know you've heard of both bands, and they're undeniably huge. And they didnt decide to write shitty songs.

Glory and praise to Thee, Satan, on high,
Where Thou didst reign, in Hell where Thou dost lie,
Vanquished, silent, dreaming eternally.
Grant that my soul some day rest close to Thee
Under the Tree of Knowledge which shall spread
Its branches like a Temple overhead.
