Eh, I agree with you the true Metallica was 1981-1990, but I still totally love the black album. Load had a couple decent songs on it, after that it's really hard for me to find a song I like. Maybe a couple of the new covers on the Garage Inc CD, but then again I had half those songs from them years earlier so that was kinda a cop out too unfortunately.

Too much talent, too much time with too little good material IMO. 20 years, damn.

Listening to AJFA again, it always reminds me of a 2 mile walk home I use to make from the bus stop to my house back during my freshman year of high school. Whenever I hear that album, it takes me back to those long walks. AJFA and MOP are two of the very few albums that do that to me.

The bar was set with KEA, RTL, MOP, and AJFA. They're never going to reach it again.

I can only hope for well-written songs that the self-titled had. It wasn't their best album, but the songs were exquisitely written. Even though they changed musical direction, it's still widely accepted as being a great album. Let's hope they give us some songs that don't suck. It doesn't matter if they're not thrashing, just don't give us trash..

Your ass here!

I don't get the St Anger hate. Maybe's it's because Metallica were doing what felt right for them, instead of pandering to the fans desires. A band makes the music they want to make first and foremost, if they get fans then thats a bonus, a band that is simply making music they think people want to hear lacks integrity, and Metallica do not lack integrity.

St Anger was one of the most furiously righteous albums ever made, maybe it was just too intense for some. Imo it's far more intense and heavy than any death metal album I've ever heard, and I used to be pretty big on the death metal.

The new album is going to pwn, just like all Metallica albums barring Kill em all and the black album have.

am i the only one that found that letter a bit... condescending? It's almost like he feels like he's reached a big enough status to be cheeky and cocky to Metallica. If he was a real fanboy like he proclaims he wouldn't have written "(even St.Anger!)". If Metallica see the light side of it then so be it, they're probably friends anyway, but I just found it a bit... tongue in cheek, and not very genuine.

I'm not stating anything, but do you guys think this is real? It could be fake...

I hope it's real and metallica listens to the last he said

for me as a listener, st. anger is a shitty album. a no-name-band who would have sent this to labels would have received a mail back, stating "go back to the rehearsal room boys, tune your guitars, buy a new snare-drum. everything done wrong, come back when you learned to play.". but because metallica released this record there are many people digging it...i still hate it.

but of course, i can see the point that this albums was kind of "importnat" for metallica as a band. important to do music again just for fun and for the sake of ass-kicking, getting back into "harder" music...i felt like "o.k., i can almost understand why they had to do this" after seeing the some kind of monster documentary dvd..

I think that by Metallicas standard it is not a good album, but by any other standard st.anger is a cool album.

I think that if an unknown band came out with this album, I think people would go: What a cool album.. kinda different, but still cool

Nice letter. too bad Dave Grohl can write a song about a beached turd on the rim of a toilet bowl sound more metal than anything Metallica does lately.
