Oh yeah... some Toronto Mesh pics

Ok you bunch of ingrates, I thought I'd share a few pics (I now realize how shit my camera is, plz forgive the quality) from the Meshuggah show in Toronto a week ago. I'm very fortunate to be friends with Marten and the band, so whenever they're in town I get to hang with them and assist for the day. Those that were at the show can attest to the greatness of the show at the Koolhaus, which was completely sold out with 2600 in attendance.

Naturally there is tons I could talk about, but I'll just post these up for now.

During setup I managed to get a poor aerial shot of Tomas' setup from the flightcases behind him:

While Tomas was testing the kit before soundcheck, I was curious about his kick triggers:

A closeup of Fredrik's breath controller:

and what's at his feet:

Hmmm....along with the AKG 400 series wireless units in the top of Marten's rack is this Muse Receptor:

In Marten's rack there's three Vetta 2 heads, the top two are for Marten, and the bottom unit is for Dick's bass. Yes, it's deliberately blurred - call me a tease, but I'm not posting their patch info:

And this is what's inside the back of this rack-o-mesh doom:

And in all they're glory, the tools of Mesh mayhem: four LACS custom Ibanez 8 stringers (first two Marten's, second two Fredrik's) and Dick's Warwick Dolphin basses. I can conclude after thoroughly studying and playing these instruments that - indeed the new Iceman 8's are very neck-heavy but like the RG's play astonishingly well, and the although the 2228 is a good axe - it's not like these. They're really on another level

And the bass changes:

Spent a lot of time with Michael the tech:

Marten displaying the new Iceman :

I took the opportunity to have Marten teach me a few parts I was having difficulty with. The Hand of Doom:

Souncheck. This was to be my vantage point for the show later on...

Showtime, I had to keep watch over this:

And so this was my vantage point from onstage right behind Marten. It's really interesting to hear the actual onstage mix, as they're hearing it. Marten's floor wedges were happily blasting in my direction.

Marten and I in the dressing room after the show, which is always fun. Had a great time hanging and partying with them, as well as the guys from Ministry and FF's Burton Bell into the wee hours.

Always a good time!!

Please be kind to snakes. They can't help it.

Nice work man!
Im really looking forward to seeing them in September.

How do you know Marten? I met him briefly outside the Mean Fiddler in 04, seems like the most talkative guy out of the lot of them. and the 8 string iceman is disgusting. urgh

Those Iceman 8s are beautiful

I can sort of understand blurring the patch info (though Im sure they wouldnt really care if it was disclosed) but why is the tuning for the 8 strings blurred? It's not some great secret is it, do Meshuggah not want people to learn their songs?

I've known Marten since about 98-99, and yes, he along with Tomas usually do most of the talking for the band - he's a great, caring guy.

Not quite. If they wanted their patches openly available, they would publicly post them in response to the umpteen million requests for them, right?

Hmm I suppose so, it just seems a little bit sad is all, like the way Tim Commerford from RATM and Audioslave covers his amp head with a camo net during gigs and confiscates film from photographers and fans that photograph his amp backstage when its uncovered, or makes them delete the photos they took.
