Right. For punch, spank, clarity, brightness and note definition it's hard to beat a tele. Metal gain comes from the amp. If you're worried about single coil noise you can always do what I did and drop a set of Kinmans in there. Dead silent and all tone.

I swapped in a 3 saddle bridge on my MIA tele with Callaham vintage enhanced saddles to completely solve the intonation problem. Fender's original idea with 3 saddles increases string pressure on the bridge plate for snap and sustain. The Callaham saddles have machined flats to vary the string length and no annoying screws sticking out to inhibit palm muting.

Callaham also provides a thicker cold rolled steel bridge plate for better sustain with no annoying side lips.

Note the slanted selector switch. It's a Kinman 4-way. The forward position both pups in series for a loud P90-ish tone.

Locking tuners, a graphtech nut and strap locks. What's not to like? When I want humbuckers and a heavier mahogany tone I turn to my SG or LP.

...there is no emoiticon to express what I'm feeling...
