Guitar Player is the only mag I'm interested in these days. They feature really good interviews with a wide variety of players. I actually learn about a lot of new artists reading GP.

Guitar World was good in the '80s--they covered the shred scene very heavily (in addition to mainstream metal), but when grunge came in they panicked and starting covering all that flavor of the month stuff. The low point for me was back in the '90s when the tab was almost all grunge stuff that was easy enough for your dog to play. A little of that is good for beginners, I guess, but an entire magazine full of it?

I do miss the gear news/reviews that the other mags have,
You all do know that those reviews are for the most part wankfests designed to make the ad sponsors look good and continue to buy space in the mags? There are few things less trustworthy than gear reviews in guitar mags.

Van Hagar was a musical genius, a monster drummer, a competent bass player, and a brilliant singer. Van Halen was a musical genius, a monster drummer, a competent bass player, and a male stripper.

jesus.....

Honestly, I learn more frequenting sites such as this than I ever could from something like GW these days. Lots of smart musicians lurking round the internets.
