It ended when they released Hear In The Now Frontier? Dunno. But they just completely lost me with that release.

From 'Rage For Order' to 'Promised Land' though, they could do no wrong in my eyes. OK, with maybe the exception of the back cover on Rage For Order. What the hell was that all about?

same here.

"The Warning" is a decent album, but that one and the self-titled really don't do a whole lot for me .

"Rage for Order" up to "Promised Land" (amazing and far too overlooked album) are the Queensryche i like.

Short answer, Chris Degarmo left.

I don't think there's been another band in musical history that've taken such a drastic nose-dive after losing just one member.

Degarmo left and took all the songwriting with him.

While I agree that Degarmo's departure did have a big impact on their songwriting. He's just as guilty for "Hear In the Now Frontier". Sorry, but that's just not a good album. And I'm sure that I wasn't the only one that got their hopes up when he came back on "Tribe". Which turned out to be such a cocktease. Especially after they were posting promo photos of the band with Chris.

If you believe what goes on some of the QR forums. They're all convinced that it's Geoff Tate and his wife's fault for the band turning out like this.

Honestly the band was on their way downhill writing wise before Degarmo left. Hear in the Now Frontier was the start of the massive slide, and Tribe while decent was certainly nowhere near the "old days" even though Degarmo was back for the writing and recording. Also, having heard Degarmo's solo stuff, it sounds a lot like the later Queensryche stuff... I was actually really excited to get the 4 song cd he had out, and to be honest it was pretty awful. I listened to it once and haven't touched it since

What I find REALLY weird is when stuff is fantastic live, but the studio version is just really lacking. Like their cd of covers, Take Cover. I saw them live before the cd was released and the covers were fantastic, so I bought the cd. HUGE let down, the cd is nowhere even close to the live performance of those songs

TemjinStrife is a jewel in the rough
Age, band drama, etc. Some bands don't age gracefully.

"Take Cover" was terrible. I was really dissapointed, and glad I wasn't the one who had bought it (heard it at a friend's).
