I saw that Killadelphia DVD recently. While it's not quite my style of music, I respect those guys musically.

But is it just me or is the lead singer a completely self-absorbed douche with a glaringly obvious drinking problem?

I mean, he already annoyed me on that Melissa Cross DVD, but I couldn't quite say why. Now I do. Geez.

Things I enjoyed the most:

When he got completely owned by that other guy's girlfriend, who called him "the musicians' cheerleader" when he made a stupid remark about cheerleaders. She could not have put it more correctly. Fuck subtlety, indeed.

And of course, when he got his ass kicked.

I kind of pity the guys who are in the band with him. They all seem like really nice guys and you can tell they don't really like him, but now they're famous and they have to make the best of it. The bassist is trying to keep him in line as best he can, but there's not much he can do.

On the upside, seeing this made me feel a lot better about not being in a band and sucking way too much to make becoming famous a remote possibility.

He's the weak link of the band. They should just kick him out and be done with it.

I mean, just imagine it. On the one hand you're what some people call "the next big thing in metal", on the other hand that guy in the middle of the stage annoys the living fuck out of you. And you have to spend your whole day with him on the bus.

I hope for them that if they do replace him at some point, it will not hurt their career.

But really, it sucks cause he seems like he could be a really cool guy, and he is a hell of a screamer. In the end, you know, he is living life for what it is, and having fun at it. More power to him. I wish I was as wealthy in a world-touring metal band.

No, he is not a hell of a screamer. He actually really sucks at it. Watch him in the studio, and he is just grunting quietly into a mic with the gain cranked.

His technique is good, I'll give you that. But once you get it down there's really not much to it.

Let me phrase this very carefully: I am able to scream in a similar fashion for hours without getting a sore throat. I'm not saying I'm as good as him, I'm far from it. But if even I can (somewhat) do it, I'm sure tons of people can do it better. To me, a vocalist who only screams and growls is the equivalent to an uninspired "strum-strum"-punk guitarist or an uninspired "chug-chug"-numetal guitarist.

It gets old pretty quickly. But that's a matter of taste, I suppose.

Edit: That's interesting, noodles. I had suspected that his vocals get heavily compressed and/or distorted. I'm sure he can do it loudly though, because in a live show it's hard to get away with such things - you are always in danger of getting drowned by feedback. When I mean I could do it for hours I actually meant at volume, so I'm pretty sure he can do it, it's really not that hard.

You can HEAR it on the killadelphia cd. Im pretty sure hes actually pitchshifting too. you can hear it bug out and randomly go from growl to shriek and back like a fraction of a second later. sound awful

that said, his studio sound really is amazing, but god is he a dick

tis a pity randy is apparently a douche, cuz i love the tunes. terror and hubris DVD was a letdown though
