Fuck all you guys.
![]() I agree that Randy was being a douchebag in that DVD, but I listen to music based on the music, not based on whether the members of the band are genuine saints. I think Randy is the perfect vocalist for Lamb of God and is the strongest link of the chain musically, followed by Mark and Willie (not talking about music proficiency, but talking about the sound they bring to the band). The thing I like most about Randy is his lyrics. His lyrics for songs like "Now You've Got Something To Die For" are just amazing. The way he writes his vocal parts is also superb. Maybe some of you think LoG would be better with a power metal vocalist or some annoying vocalist like Warrel Dane from Nevermore, but I can't think of a vocalist who fits Lamb of God better than Randy. If they got a different vocalist, it would be a completely different band. I don't think they would have the right to continue to call the band "Lamb of God." I probably would still listen to it, but I doubt I'd like it as much as Ashes of the Wake or As The Palaces Burn. Yeah, Randy was a douchebag in the DVD, but that doesn't devalue the music he makes and I don't get all the hatred for him on here and all the people saying he sucks as a screamer. ![]() |

I saw LoG live... I was particularly unimpressed. Granted, I'm not a Lamb of God fan... I keep giving the music a shot, keep coming back "meh"... and granted, some of what was 'meh' about them live wasn't musical (it was Ozzfest, their sound sucked - though it had been good up til then - and the entire set was backlit by a wall of white lights, I saw nothing but silhouettes the whole time).
On the other hand, I did read that the singer had finally gotten his shit together, and he seemed all right that night. Still find them boring though. ![]()

MY Music - writing about depression and... well, music Courage is the most important of all the virtues, because without courage you can't practice any other virtue consistently. You can practice any virtue erratically, but nothing consistently without courage. ~ Maya Angelou I like a little rebellion now and then. It's like a storm in the atmosphere. ~ Thomas Jefferson |

Ive seen them live 3 times once at a festival and twice in a club style venue. His vocal delivery has been on par with the CD's every time. Now youv got something to die for is a great example. How do you put vocals over that song that arent exactly like that and have it sound anywhere near as good? you dont. |

Wow, you seem pretty worked up about this. Let me explain.
That's exactly what I said, it even says so in the very quote you posted. It is possible to alter timbre with multiband compression, but normally, you'd keep all the bands pretty even (hence: when done correctly). Of course a normal singer "sounds" better when compressed, if by sound better you mean "signal is more even, doesn't change between inaudible and drowning everything else out". But I meant the actual singing performance itself: Being on pitch, conveying emotion, all that crap isn't affected by the use of a compressor. When you are screaming though, it is. I should have been more clear on that, sorry. Quote:
I am not exactly sure how you came up with 0dB, but it implies that you think a compressor is an "all or nothing" effect. I could interpret that as some kind of "fundamental failure to understand how exactly a compressor works", but I'm sure you just meant something else and I wouldn't want to risk coming across as an arrogant know-it-all. ![]() One example is: Set the threshold to -20dB, and the ratio to 1:infinite, you have a brickwall limiter. If your attack and release times are fast enough, most of the signal that is above that threshold now has an SNR of 20dB less than it did before. Everything below the threshold has the same distance to the noise floor as before, so its SNR doesn't change. Now after such stupidly heavy limiting you'd compensate with gain, raising the noise floor by whatever amount of gain you apply. So overall, the SNR tends to suffer, that's why most vocalists who compress also use a noise gate or an expander. Another example: Imagine screaming...I don't know, RAAAAAAKE into the microphone, because you're really upset with gardening tools. You'd set your threshold so that the R is below it and the A is above and gets compressed. The K get's compressed too, obviously, but the barely audible "-h" at the end does not. What happens? The R gets a lot louder relative to the A or the K. Try screaming the R at volume, you'll see what I mean. Those are the kinds of noises that the compressor can amplify, and as a result the whole scream sounds alot more powerful and effortless. |

I just think it's so funny that Randy gets totally knocked out in about three punches by his own guitarist
after drunkenly stumbling around and trying to knee and head butt the guy ![]()

I agree totally with naren. I really like lamb of god. It seems to come up alot, especially with bands with a large following that because their members aren't the best in their field they are automatically shit cause of the member being very popular at what they do. Im gonna go listen to Now You've Got Something To Die For.
