I don't know if you're trying to say what I think you're trying to say. If however, you're trying to say that compressing a vocal line brings out the gargle in the back of the throat RELATIVE TO THE REST OF THE SOUND, you'd be wrong. A compressor is just a little Smurf in a box with a volume control - when the volume goes past a certain point, the Smurf adjusts the track gain to lessen the difference between the threshold and the track's volume. The Smurf does NOT boost arbitrary quiet parts of the signal. If you mean to say that little 'gargles' interspersed here and there, when there is no other signal, are brought up, you'd be sort of right. But just think about the implications of 'compression brings up quiet little parts of the signal all the time' - the signal-to-noise ratio of EVERYTHING would be 0dB. Clearly, this is nonsense. If you start and end a line with a little gurgle, the compressor can bring the gurgles up, but if a gurgle just pops up out of nowhere in the middle of a line that has consistent volume, it isn't going anywhere. It seems like you have a fundamental failure to understand how exactly a compressor works. Correct me if I'm wrong. Jeff | |||

I also remember CC absolutely dominating Rock'n'Roll Jeopardy... but that's a different storyAll said, I hope Will, Mark and Chris finally get the band they deserve, they're nice as hell, and one day that stone weighing them down will fall from their necks.
