Bringing word from another person (I'll let you guess who)

SoundClick artist: Elements (UK) - page with MP3 music downloads Monuments - New where will the ocean end..

Now listen to Fell on Sevens site. Any similarities? Yeah just a bit....

Oh and if you've never heard of Elements/Monuments, how is he on your friends list on Myspace?

Holy crap, it's similar as hell too.

On Fell, the riff comes in about 40 seconds. It almost exactly the same as the beginning riff of the Elements' song.

Deschain is a jewel in the rough
the first riff in "we filmed the nightmare" is Bulb's "Imaginary" aswell...........LAAAAAAAAME...... ..and thats before we get on to the "elements" riff. WTF!!!

surely doing that completely takes the satisfaction out of writing a song in the first place.......because uuuurm.....its not writing a song. odd.

I'm not saying he didn't rip it off, but sometimes I hear a riff in my head that fits the song I'm working on, so I figure how to play it on the fretboard, and later when I listen to what I recorded, I find out that the riff was exactly the same as a riff from some other band that I've listened to. Usually in a different speed and in another key, but still pretty much the same.

Just saying. Who knows.

What about Michael Jackson's - 'Give in to me' and Dream Theater's - 'Endless sacrifice'. The start sounds pretty similar to me :P It's just the first sec though.

Muse - 'Hysteria' and Dream Theater - 'Never enough'

Muse - 'Stockholm syndrome' 02:22 and Dream Theater - 'Panic attack' 04:24 (the singing)

Muse - 'Stockholm syndrome' 01:30 and Dream Theater - 'Never enough' 00:59 (the synth stuff)

I know, it's pretty different, but still, when I listened to that octavarium album I noticed so many similarities with Muse's absolution album. Like someone have said: "Hey guys, why don't you make something like this absolution album by Muse"

It feels like they have taken material from muse and changed it a little bit and made it their own. But they've changed it so much that it's hard to notice. Well, that's my thought. I guess most of you disagree. I just remember, I listened a lot to the absolution album, and then I got the octavarium, and I just noticed so many similarities... was pretty strange, because it was pretty different too you know. I guess that's mor of an "influenced by" than "ripoff" though. Nothing like the seven and elements example.

Cataclysm_child: I here you on the Octavarium/Muse comparisons, its one of the first things I heard when I was listening to that album. Still love Panic Attack and These Walls, but it can be a bit....annoying sometimes

That's the thing about Dream Theater, they put their influences in their music. Seven just straight up steals riffs. With the vast amount of music DT has written you can see tons of influences, but no rip-offs.

The thing about the Muse/DT comparisons is that DT just used the song as an influence musically, they didn't copy the same exact riff, claim its a different one because of the drum machine they used, and change the tempo.

...and also that DT took some flack, rightly so, for wearing that Muse influence a little TOO prominently.

The one bit was a DIRECT COPY...strike three.

Ok, Seven used a low B instead of an A.

The only creative accounting I have seen is Bush's plan to balance the budget by 2015.
Unless, of course, he plans on skyrocketing the debt at such a rate to approach infinity on an
asymptote, causing a giant budget calculator divide by zero error that reboots the country.
