"Nighttime Birds" is right there up with "Mandylion" but after that they changed music style, and I can't say I like their newer stuff as much, though it is still quite good. I've never listened to anything before "Mandylion" either.

Now I lay me down to sleep

Glory and praise to Thee, Satan, on high,
Where Thou didst reign, in Hell where Thou dost lie,
Vanquished, silent, dreaming eternally.
Grant that my soul some day rest close to Thee
Under the Tree of Knowledge which shall spread
Its branches like a Temple overhead.

Let's see what I can remember from the more extreme end:

Old Opera IX (with Cadaveria on vocals)
Cadaveria
Mordichrist
Demonic Christ
Lucifugum
Astarte
Ludicra
Thorr's Hammer (Runhild's vocals are nuts)
Deathwitch (at least, I believe they were...)

There's more, but that'll take a bit of searching.

The Shadow album was released the same year as Wages of Sin; it was good, but I think I liked WoS better overall. Unfortunately, I can't find any samples of it online.
