Even for how much I respect and love Chris Broderick, I would not want to go to see them live and have him playing completely different improvised solos for the songs. People go there to hear the solos that they know. Friedman's solo in "Tornado of Souls" is one of my favorite metal solos of all time. If Broderick played a different solo there, no matter what solo it was, it wouldn't be as good as the original.

If I released an album and then my lead guitarist quit and I had to get a new lead guitarist, I'd want the new guy to play all the old solos exactly the way the old guitarist did. New songs, however, would be a completely different matter.

I'm not asking for a totally rewritten solo... just, for maybe a 12th section (god knows that an extra 30 seconds on a live metal song won't kill anyone) where he can be himself, you know?

But, I'm reasonably certain Dave wouldn't be so happy with that. Does he at least get his obligatory "random solo bit while the band takes a break" that a lot of bands do?

There was a few vids of him doing some stuff before they started a song. I think it was the 5 octave tap deal.

Oh, he gets that, just not in their songs.

If you search on Youtube, you can probably find little parts inbetween songs where Chris is doing crazy psycho technical tapping and sweeping, even using the low B string, then after that they go into a song.

Some songs can have an extra 30 seconds thrown in, but it really depends on the song and I can't really think of any songs on Rust In Peace or Peace Sells that an extra 30 seconds thrown in would really work in. I know that in my band, an extra 30 seconds of soloing would destroy the balance of any of our songs. I know my band doesn't have a single song that you could insert something like that into.

If Megadeth starts writing and recording a new album with Chris, then you'll probably get some of his signature lead lines, techniques, and so on.

Same here. He's an absolute monster player, and an amazing teacher. I only took like two months worth of lessons with him until he went on tour with Nevermore. I'm really glad he's finally getting the exposure he deserves.
