I finally figured out electronic music

Well, I've always enjoyed a few artists like Daft Punk and Justice, the whole spectrum of electronic music and the culture has never appealed to me. Flash forward to last night, I was hanging out with a friend of mine when he started to show me some of his favorites. Then he pulled out his Macbook, and started spinning only using abelton live. It certainly helped that I was in an appropriate headspace, but goddamn, I turned into a kid on christmas day. To be fair, my buddy is a really freakin good dj, so it all adds together. The first artist he showed me was Venetian Snares, a dj from Winnipeg. Upon searching I found a couple mentions of him, but no vids or anything. I've been listening to nothing but him since last night...so probably a good 26 solid hours now. Without further adue,

Just wait for the computer glitch, man that really tossed me when I heard it.

Electronic music is the fucking shit. I love it because, after being raised and listening constantly to all this straightforward, "Western" music (I call it that because the electronic scene is bigger overseas), electronic music seems new and exciting. When you're looking up a new metal band, a lot of them have very similar aspects, which can be a good thing. But with electronic music, I find it's very difficult (unless you're looking in the genres of trance, happy hardcore, house, etc.) to come up with two artists that sound very similar.

Btw Venetian Snares' latest album, I think it's My Downfall, is absolutely incredible. You can hear some of it on his Myspace:
MySpace.com - venetian snares - WINNEPEG, Manitoba - Jungle / Classical / Breakcore - www.myspace.com/venetiansnares

Electronic music is by far he most interesting genre of music i'm into, sorry metal.

Check out some Warp and Ninja Tune artists from over here, some of the most innovative electronic bands on the planet belong to those two labels (Squarepusher, Boards of Canada, Amon Tobin, Aphex Twin, Jackson and his Computer Band, Cinematic Orchestra, etc.)

There is certainly a cross bred feel to alot of electronic artists, common sample useage, mashups, that kinda shite. It's to be expected though when so many styles of this music are based on one drum break.
