I love learning little riffs by ear.

Sure, I get a few things wrong, but there's no beating the experience.

I couldn't read tabs for shit for some reason, I guess I used to be retarded but either way I got used to learning most things by ear. If I can't learn by ear, I watch someone do it.

I am the one who is always exhuming
I am the one you think you see at the darkest of nights
I have yet to reconcile the thoughts within myself
for still I am one with the dead
Oh, sanguine blood of thy corpse
Quench my thirst
and stain my skin
Oh, how ironic it is to feel so alive when you cease to exist...
I adore what I have become.

But for stuff like Necrophagist? Mostly have to use tab. I figured out a little part of "Stabwound" by myself...after looking at the tab for 10 minutes

I also sat down, turned on YouTube, and ear-ed Lai Lai Hei's non-chord thing. That song is so sick until the singing.

I'd rather spend $100 on a CD player that will slow things down to half speed than spend $25-$30 on a tab book which was done by someone with said CD player.

When I taught lessons, I had a student who would bring in Death Metal every week to be transcribed. After about the third song, I told him to let me transcribe next week's song at home and we'd work on ear training from then on. The next week, he told me he was quitting. Some guitar players try to avoid the realization that ear training is every bit as important as mechanical techniques, if not more important.

not to mention alot of these tab books have ALOT of mistakes in them. that's why i stopped buying them years ago early on in my playing. why pay $30 for a book when you end up figuring it out correctly on your own? i'll trust my ears thank you.

I learn a lot of stuff by ear, i look at the tabs if i need to figure out what part of a song is.

it's also why i cant really play heavier metal

3 cheers for free gear!
